As I just turned 46, this article really hit home for me. My own health journey began at 40 when I started feeling the effects of aging: low energy, a dip in my sex drive, struggling to keep up with my kids, and realizing that hangovers now last days instead of hours. It was a wake-up call. I knew I needed to make changes if I wanted to be a present and active father and hopefully meet my great-grandchildren someday. But I quickly learned that optimizing my health wasn't something my doctor was equipped to help with. So, I took matters into my own hands and ended up building Keyspan. Our mission is to empower others to take control of their health and prevent chronic illness. My Dad has always said he is only ever as happy as his least happy child... Now that I am a parent, I get it. But I also think this is a great analogy for how the body works: we have so many compensatory mechanisms that keep us "happy" or feeling fine, but the body is only truly as healthy as its least healthy components. Your cholesterol can be stellar, vitamin D levels sufficient, inflammatory markers in a good zone...but if blood sugar is off, or insulin is in trouble for example, eventually the good markers will lose their value. Humans are survivalists and though we can live long with a compromised system or with systems that are working far from perfectly, we cannot live healthfully and will inevitably cave to the weakest leg. In plain terms; even if you feel great or at minimum feel okay every day, checking your biomarkers and internal status is paramount to scanning for overt symptoms Once symptoms arise the imbalance or disease process has been going on for quite a while.
