Did you know that locomotives were brought to the KCNSC in 1959 to be used for auxiliary steam production? The locomotives operated for all three shifts with a production capability of 30,000 pounds-per-inch. In 1961 a diesel switch engine pulled into Bendix, coupled onto two 833,000-pound steam locomotives and hauled them off to be returned to the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad from whom they had been leased. #TBT #KCNSCHiddengem #75yearsofKCNSC

In 2014, the Mobile Guardian Transporter (MGT) becomes KCNSC New Mexico Operations first major production program. MGT’s are used to securely transport cargo across the country for the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). This week KCNSC will feature four community projects that we have been working on this summer to help cultivate #STEMM education in our community at Grandview C-4 School District. KCNSC is excited to continue supporting our local schools and students preparing for their future careers. #futurestrong #futureready

KCNSC’s third project is providing $75k to PREP-KC to help students earn dual high school and @mcckansascity college credit. PREP-KC will support teachers and schools expand their capacity to offer OSHA certifications for General Industry to students pursuing manufacturing careers after high school.

In 1979, Kirtland Operations, now KCNSC New Mexico Operations, continued to grow and took over the Multiple Integrated Laser and Engagement System loaner program for Sandia National Laboratories.
