Joe Lama, born in 1950 in El Paso, TX, is the grandson of Tony Lama, Sr. He spent his childhood playing in the Tony Lama factory, sparking his lifelong passion for leather and boot making. Joe’s official journey began during college when he cut leathers during a union strike at the factory. After graduating, he managed the raw materials warehouse, ensuring high-quality hand-stitched boots. His expertise in leather quickly became essential, leading him to purchase exotic leathers for Tony Lama. Throughout his career, Joe traveled the world to find the best leathers and earned a designer award from the American Apparel & Footwear Association in 1974 for his innovative use of exotic materials.
