Check out a recap of Accelerator for America’s latest Economic & Community Development Practitioners’ Network convening, including insights on how the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF) can leverage substantial private capital and provide flexible financing for resilient housing projects.
There is a critical nexus between climate change and affordable housing and as communities confront these dual challenges, local leaders must adopt comprehensive strategies to build resilience and ensure sustainable development. Recently, Accelerator for America's Matt Horton led a discussion, during the Accelerator’s Economic and Community Development Practitioners’ Network (ECDPN) convening, that highlighted how local communities are tapping new state and federal initiatives to address both housing affordability and climate change. The full report, published today, also outlines a framework of key components to holistically integrating climate resilience with housing initiatives, providing a roadmap for cities to create more robust, equitable, and livable communities in the face of emerging environmental threats. #affordablehousing #climatechange #resilienthousing

Excited about the opportunity and humbled by the important work of the Justice Climate Fund. The JCF was seeded and developed as a collaboration of so many organizations to ensure there is alignment between the goals of the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund and the economic development needs of communities across the country. We look forward to working with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to meet not only the goals of the GGRF but also the Administration's #Justice40 goals.

NPR discusses how the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) — hailed as the most ambitious climate legislation in U.S. history — is working to move the country away from fossil fuels while rebuilding the manufacturing industry. “So far, 316 new clean energy projects have been announced since the law passed, generating more than 100,000 new manufacturing jobs, according to the environmental business group E2. The White House estimates more than 270,000 jobs have been created,” NPR cites. JCF has been selected to receive approximately $1 billion in funding from the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund’s Clean Communities Investment Accelerator program, part of the IRA. Our mission includes generating investment and opportunities in communities across the United States, starting in low-income and disadvantaged areas. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eDcbdnzc

As reported in Green Building Advisor: “While the combined $20 billion in NCIF and CCIA grants don’t technically constitute a centralized green bank, the resulting gestalt now represents a green bank aggregate of sorts, which should mobilize enough private capital in service of creating even more green banks at the state level.” Programs like the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s Clean Communities Investment Accelerator and National Clean Investment Fund are a step towards centralized green banking, which would ensure America's disadvantaged communities have equitable access to climate and clean energy solutions.
