Our students gathered while we recognized their accomplishments, heard from class speaker, Macy Kiker with Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School, and our sponsors of the JLC Program in attendance, John W. We also awarded the recipient of the 2024 Gift Legacy Alumni Scholarship Award to Jonathan Chang '23 with $1,000 towards his future education. Yesterday was our last JLC Class Session for this year! We can’t believe that the year has finally come to an end and we will be celebrating all of our students accomplishments in May at Graduation 👩🏼🎓👨🎓 🎉 The session was held at UPMC Fredrickson Outpatient Center in Mechanicsburg and started off with an Ice Breaker Activity and presentation from Coach Mike Greene of Integrity Works Coaching on Habit 6 & 7: Synergize & Sharpen the Saw. Then the students heard from a panel of representatives from UPMC before learning about College Interviewing from Donovin Lindsay of College Knowledge Foundation. After a delicious lunch provided by UPMC the students finished out the day with Mock Interviews, a discussion of the program and Ah-Ha’s. This past Wednesday was the second to last class for our Junior Leadership students at Volvo Construction Equipment in Shippensburg. We can’t believe we only have one more session together before the Class of 2024 graduates! The group started out with an ice breaker activity led by a group of our students. Then Coach Mike Greene of IntegrityWorks Coaching, presented to the students on Habit 5: Understand then be Understood. Volvo then welcomed the group before taking the students on tours of their plant and talking to the students through the Career Exploration Panel representatives from Volvo spoke on. After a delicious lunch provided by Volvo, the students heard from John G Anthony II of Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation on Understanding Credit before they finished out the day. Yesterday, our JLC students met for the first time in 2024 at Members 1st Federal Credit Union’s Headquarters in Enola. They started off with an ice breaker activity and presentation by Coach Mike Greene of Integrity Works Coaching on Stephen Covey’s Habit 4: Think Win-Win. They then broke into groups to take a tour of Members 1st FCU’s building and hear a presentation on College Prep from Donovin Lindsay of College Knowledge. Then they were able to listen to a Panel of Elected Officials including: Jessica Brewbaker, Cumberland County Judge; Timothy L. DeFoor, M.S., PA State Auditor General; Anne Lauritzen, Carlisle School Board; and Representative Patty Kim, State Representative for the 103rd District. The panel gave advice to the students about how to inspire change in their communities and the importance of voting. After lunch and to finish out the day they did their Community Service with Radiant Hope, where they packed bottles with needed items and gift cards to be handed out to individuals and families affected by cancer. Yesterday, our JLC Class held their last class of 2023 at the Hampden Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 in Mechanicsburg! Coach Mike Greene of IntegrityWorks Coaching, started off the day with his presentation on Habit 3: Putting First Things First. Then the students took a tour of the station to learn more about the volunteer fire company and were a part of a leadership discussion. Kelli Gift, owner of Striving2Thrive, continued the day with a Colors Assessment with the students before and after lunch. A big thank you to JLC Committee member Megan Frye with Edward Jones for providing the session lunch. To finish out the day with their Community Service Spotlight the students heard about Radiant Hope, a nonprofit created to support and encourage those whose lives have been impacted by cancer. Joanna Dennstaedt, Founder of the organization shared her story with the students and how they could be involved with the organization.
