CLEAR: A Framework to Guide College Staff and AI Chatbots to Support Student Mental Health Student mental health is a growing concern for colleges and universities, significantly impacting student success and retention. According to a 2023 Student Voice survey, nearly half of college students believe faculty and advisers have a responsibility to help address their mental health struggles. Yet, many institutions are not fully equipped to provide the necessary support, leaving staff feeling overwhelmed. To address this challenge, InsideTrack, in collaboration with Corporation for a Skilled Workforce (CSW), introduced the CLEAR framework—a trauma-informed approach designed to guide staff in supporting student mental health. CLEAR, which stands for Confirm, Legitimize, Evaluate, and Respond, encourages empathy and understanding before diving into problem-solving, helping staff better engage with students in distress. https://lnkd.in/gv-rQiDC Key elements of the CLEAR framework include: • Confirm: Acknowledge the student’s feelings • Legitimize: Validate their emotions • Evaluate: Gain a full understanding of their situation • Respond: Provide support and actionable next steps While the CLEAR framework is an invaluable tool for human staff, it can also be used to guide the creation of AI agents, allowing them to work alongside human staff to provide more scalable and comprehensive mental health support. Cognitive AI chatbots, like those built with #JujiStudio, are equipped with active listening capabilities, emotional intelligence, and the ability to dynamically adapt to context—making them the ideal tool for implementing the CLEAR framework. Here’s how: • Guide Conversations Effectively Cognitive AI chatbots can use the CLEAR framework as expert guidelines to structure conversations, mirroring human interactions. They confirm concerns, legitimize feelings, evaluate situations, and respond with empathy, making the exchange more supportive and meaningful (see Image 1). • Generate Personalized, Context-Sensitive Responses These chatbots can tailor responses based on the specific context and emotional state of a student. They provide customized advice and escalate complex cases to human staff when necessary, ensuring students receive the right level of support (see Image 2). • Complement Human Staff AI chatbots don’t replace human staff but enhance their capacity by managing routine mental health check-ins and offering real-time support. They can also share insights and flags based on ongoing conversations, ensuring staff stay informed and proactive. By integrating the CLEAR framework into AI chatbot interactions, institutions can align their digital tools with trauma-informed care principles, delivering both compassionate and scalable mental health support. #StudentSuccess #MentalHealth #HigherEd #AIChatbots #TraumaInformedCare #EdTech #CLEARFramework

The Impact of Embedded Tutoring: Scaling Success with AI Tutoring Chatbots Ashley Mowreader from Inside Higher Ed reported that a recent pilot program at Sam Houston State University (SHSU) has shown the powerful impact of embedded tutoring in improving student success, particularly in gateway courses with historically high failure rates. By embedding tutors directly into these courses, SHSU saw an increase in student engagement with tutoring services and a marked decrease in failure rates. https://lnkd.in/ei-Hyv7R This success highlights the significant value of embedding tutors directly into the learning process. However, scaling this model across more courses presents a challenge. That’s where AI come in—offering AI tutors to elevate embedded tutoring to a new level of impact and scalability. Here's how: 1. Offer 24/7 Support: Unlike human tutors who have limited availability, AI chatbots can provide students with continuous support, answering questions at any time of day. 2. Answer Repetitive Questions: AI tutoring chatbots can handle repetitive queries from students, such as clarification on assignment instructions or deadlines, allowing human tutors and professors to focus on more complex issues. 3. Teach Students Theories and Skills: AI tutoring chatbots can dynamically adapt the same course materials to different students based on the students' background, interest, and situation. Using the examples, analogies, or stories that students can best relate to, it improves students' learning interests and outcomes. 4. Track Student Progress Automatically: AI tutoring chatbots can monitor each student’s progress in real time, helping tutors and faculty identify struggling students early and intervene with targeted support. 5. Provide Analytic Insights: With built-in analytics, AI chatbots can offer insights into student performance, highlighting areas where students commonly struggle. This data can be shared with professors, allowing for better-informed decisions in course redesign and personalized intervention strategies. By embedding AI chatbots as virtual tutors, educational institutions can extend the benefits of embedded tutoring, ensuring students receive timely, personalized support while also empowering faculty with deeper insights into student learning challenges. The future of student success may very well lie in a hybrid model where human tutors and AI tutors work together to provide the best of both worlds—high-touch, personalized learning at scale. #EdTech #AIChatbots #StudentSuccess #HigherEd #EmbeddedTutoring #AcademicSupport #InnovationInEducation #AI

Software with a Soul: Scaling Humanity’s Good Traits with Cognitive AI Chatbots In her recent blog, Anna Piñol introduces the concept of Software with a Soul (SwaS), highlighting AI's evolving ability to replicate human traits like empathy, intuition, and creativity. Unlike traditional automation, SwaS focuses on scaling "humanness," allowing AI to engage users on a deeper emotional level. https://lnkd.in/ecQkNVJx Cognitive AI agents, powered with advanced human soft skills, such as interactional intelligence and personal intelligence, like those supported by Juji, are leading this evolution, augmenting high-touch, high-stakes services across industries such as healthcare, education, and talent development. These AI-driven systems are transforming human interactions, offering 24/7 availability and personalized guidance and support based on individuals' situations and personality, where human resources may be limited. Here are several use cases where cognitive AI agents are making an impact: 1. Healthcare Cognitive AI agents can serve as patient care support assistants, engaging with patients 24/7, providing personalized, step-by-step care instructions, eliciting patient information, and offering care support (see images 1-3 for examples). Such AI agents are especially useful for helping clinicians and patients manage chronic conditions, such as mental health, diabetes, heart conditions, and more. In this process, not only can such AI agents reduce administrative burdens and provider stresses, but they can also gather critical patient insights to inform treatment progress, improve patient-clinician relationships, and enhance care outcomes. 2. Education and Professional Development Cognitive AI agents can serve as learning or career development assistants. With the advanced cognitive skills, they can automatically infer each individual's career interests, strengths, and weaknesses, guide learners through academic or skills planning, track progress, and offer personalized learning lessons (see examples in images 4-9). For example, cognitive AI agents can dynamically adapt learning materials to each student based on their background and situation, which is not possible without AI. By simulating real-world scenarios, they provide learners with a risk-free space to practice the skills learned, offering immediate feedback to improve performance and build confidence. Whether in healthcare or education, cognitive AI agents offer human-like services without the constraints of time or capacity.
