JSL Building Restoration Group is honored to be involved in such an exciting project with a great team!
Inspec is pleased to have been selected as the owner’s representative in pursuing the continued rehabilitation of this landmark structure at The University of Chicago campus. Bertram Goodhue (1869-1924) designed Rockefeller Memorial Chapel channeling a collegiate gothic theme that prevails on the central campus. Sadly, he would not live to see the completion of the chapel, intended to be the “central and dominant” feature of the campus. German born sculptor Lee Lawrie, with works of notoriety on a dozen other Goodhue commissions was engaged to complete and provide oversight on the sculptures in and on the building. Located on the building interior as part of the stone surround for the east bell tower entrance, Lawrie memorialized the architect holding a model of the chapel. Present day work scopes include the rehabilitation of the cut/carved limestone cladding, removal and rehabilitation of leaded glass windows and sweeping revisions to the building roof drainage systems. We look forward to working with University of Chicago CPD staff, JSL Masonry Restoration and Conrad Schmitt Studios. #stainedglass #stonemasonryrestoration
And so we begin! JSL Building Restoration Group Inc. was chosen as the Prime Contractor to restore the iconic Rockefeller Chapel at the University of Chicago in Hyde Park. The multi-year project will be addressing a large scale tuckpointing and stone replacement scope of work, the coordination of the removal and resetting of the majority of stain glass windows, installation of new building drainage systems, along with roofing and parapet wall repairs. We also look forward to working with the University of Chicago staff and Inspec Inc. teams! More to come…
