Calling mural artists! We posted last week about Brookley Flats, an affordable homeownership project that's unique for reserving 20 units for first-generation homebuyers. We're happy to announce that Stonley Brookley (aka “Brookley Flats”) will be the first project in Boston that will offer 20 units with a priority for first-generation homebuyers. This First Generation Preference will give priority to homebuyers of any race whose family did not benefit from the enormous financial gains that many white homeowners enjoyed in the 20th century. Thanks to support from the City of Boston, the marketing plan for Brookley Flats is a bold initiative to ensure that the individuals and families who most need the security and opportunity that homeownership can provide have access to this beautiful new condominium development, Brookley Flats! JPNDC is committed to ending the racial wealth gap. One of the primary ways that white families have accumulated wealth is through homeownership. Redlining, predatory lending and federal regulations kept people of color from being able to buy houses in markets that enjoyed appreciation over the past 70 years. As only white families could purchase homes in markets that enjoyed significant appreciation over the past 70 years, only white people received that enormous financial benefit.  Given fair housing laws, there is not yet a way to develop homeownership and target sales to prospective buyers based on race.  JPNDC’s innovative approach is not race-based. This preference creates a way to direct 20 of the 45 new homes at Brookley Flats to individuals whose families did not benefit from the wealth accumulation that many white families enjoyed in the 20th century. Brookley Flats will also give priority to households that currently live in public housing and are preparing for homeownership for two units. Grateful to the City of Boston and our development partner, Causeway Development LLC, for making this project possible! #Breakingdownbarriers #buildingequity

We had a happy and inspiring event last week to celebrate the beginning of construction at 3771 Washington St.! With New Atlantic Development, we're creating 39 service-enriched, affordable homes for seniors. So many people and organizations to thank. Sheila Dillon and the Mayor's Office of Housing, Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities, MassHousing, MassDevelopment, Eastern Bank, Mass. Housing Partnership, Boston Financial and CEDAC for funding. City Life Vida Urbana, Mass Senior Action Council, Samantha Montaño and countless neighbors over EIGHT years!

Great to be with Michelle Wu, Samantha Montaño, Ruthzee Louijeune, Henry Santana and Ben Weber to celebrate Jamaica Plain! Grateful our intern Sam Sentongo could experience our allies at the City, like Rhianna Bernal at work in Jamaica Plain.
