About us
Johnson Scholarship Foundation exists to serve disadvantaged people by assisting them to obtain education and employment. We fund scholarships and other programs which serve people in financial need. The Foundation’s programs are meant to help people who, through no fault of their own, do not enjoy the advantages of the affluent. Grant-making is focused on organizations and institutions that serve Indigenous Peoples, people with disabilities and economically disadvantaged people.

We are proud to support our grantee partner, Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech, as they continue to expand their #tVisit Teleservices Program. Learn more:
Clarke is thrilled to shine a spotlight on the Johnson Scholarship Foundation, a key funder that has significantly impacted our work. Since 2006, the Johnson Scholarship Foundation (JSF) has generously provided nearly $2 million in grants towards Clarke's programs and services. The foundation’s most recent contribution, a three-year commitment of $300,000, will specifically support Clarke’s tVisit® Teleservices Program. The funding from JSF will contribute to broadening Clarke’s program scope and extending its reach. In so doing, the foundation is helping us break down barriers to accessing Listening and Spoken Language services for children who are deaf or hard of hearing and their families, ensuring they receive the same high-quality support as on-site services. Earlier this month, JSF hosted our annual meeting with accessibility service providers from the 12 State University System of Florida - Board of Governors institutions. During the convening in Tampa, colleagues shared their experiences, learnings, and latest innovations in serving students with disabilities. We also brainstormed how providers can improve accessibility services to set students up for success. JSF partners with the state, as well as the 12 universities, to provide scholarships for students with disabilities.

Last month, the JSF team traveled to Spokane, Washington to celebrate this year’s cohort of Gonzaga University #MBA in American Indian Entrepreneurship graduates! JSF board member and MBA-AIE alum Angelique Albert, LLD encouraged graduates to use their voices to change the world. She was also awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree during the ceremony. Congratulations to all the graduates! JSF partnered with our grantee partner, Gonzaga, in 2001 to offer a Master of Business Administration program to meet the unique needs of Indigenous students living on reservations and to spark economic growth. To date, it is the only MBA program of its kind in the US. #JohnsonScholarship #GonzagaUniversity #IndigenousExcellence #IndigenousLeadership

#Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom. It is also a testament to the resilience, spirit, and contributions of African Americans in our nation. At JSF, we celebrate the immense progress that has been made and acknowledge the immense work yet to be done, including supporting #equityineducation. Our grantee partner, Providence St. Mel School (PSM), has been working toward this since 1978. Read more in this reflection by PSM alum John Fountain: https://lnkd.in/eN8P42Dv

When it comes to grant-making, it takes a village. We are so grateful for the dedication, leadership, and valuable insights from our board of directors and committee members! #johnsonscholarship
Today I attended a quarterly meeting of the Johnson Scholarship Foundation Investment Committee, which oversees the investment of JSF's endowment. Since the inception of this committee almost 30 years ago, JSF has achieved top quartile returns. The Investment committee does not get as much outside attention as the Grant Committee but its work is of equal importance. Investment returns are the fuel for the foundation's grantmaking!
