[AAPI Heritage Month Mental Health Awareness Month] 🌟 Partner Spotlight 🌟 With a shortage of access to culturally competent mental health services, JLF often hears about community based organizations filling in the gaps and on the frontlines of making referrals for mental health services. Oakland Trybe (https://lnkd.in/gf9GbdUk), led by Andrew Park, works to break the cycle of violence through supporting youth and families, by providing healing circles, violence interruption, food security, youth programming. The “Y” in Trybe stands for youth as they are the ones at the center of the work and serving. Andrew recently won the CBS Jefferson Award (highlighted in video). A profile on one of Trybe’s violence interruption leaders, Church T, is hope amidst brokenness. “A violence interrupter is pretty much a pastor, a peacemaker, a therapist, a friend, and family all in one,” Truehill said. When Church’s second family member was lost to gun violence, he took some months off work, and was able to see a Trybe therapist at different points who reached out at least once a week to check on him. “When his father died, with family close, the therapists and support from the DVP network, he was in a much better place.” For link to full church T article and photos: https://lnkd.in/ecgVV9PS VIDEO CREDIT: CBS News Bay Area JLIN LLC

The AAPI community faces significant mental health challenges, yet Asian Americans are the least likely to receive mental health treatment. To kick-off both AAPI Heritage Month and Mental Health Awareness Month, how can you engage in the conversation and take action within your communities? ✅ Reach out to friends and family, ask how they’re doing, and listen and validate their feelings ✅Share your own experiences with mental health in a supportive environment ✅Normalize self-care practices and de-stigmatize seeking help JLIN LLC

On #GlowingUpAsianPodcast 🎧 episode 05, we talk with professional basketball player and LingoAce brand ambassador Jeremy Lin and his mom, Shirley Lin. Together, they share their insights and perspectives about his journey as a student-athlete and how he was balanced between his schoolwork and basketball during his high school and college years at Harvard. On this front, we cover everything from taking advanced math to learning Chinese at home and even piano lessons. Jeremy also opened up about the stress and anxiety he experienced during those formative years, how he learned to care for his mental health, and how he’s advocated against the stigma around therapy, starting with his own parents. He also shared his work as an impact investor and philanthropist through the JLIN LLC and Jeremy Lin Foundation. Closing out the episode, Shirley shares her hopes for the future as a new generation of parents raising their own children. https://lnkd.in/eMZy5W4z In our final series showcasing the heart of the @jlinfoundation, we want to uplift organizations at the frontlines of serving their communities. "Ultimately our goal is to come in and serve, and play whatever role they want us to play." - Jeremy Lin, Founder "Jeremy's vision is really about re-defining love, so our approach flows from that. It’s about really centering those who are on the ground, those who are serving the most marginalized." - Stephanie, Executive Director 🌱 We will continue to build towards a philanthropy ecosystem that centers underserved youth, families and organizations serving them, by walking alongside them in solidarity. 🔗 Find out more about our mission and how you can be a part of this journey - https://lnkd.in/edgH9jH JLIN LLC The Asian American Foundation

In our continuing series showcasing the heart of the Jeremy Lin Foundation, we commit to a practice of listening, and bringing communities together for shared learning and mutual support. "In today's day and age, things can be very divisive, but how do we think about bringing people together, and working together towards a common goal and cause." - Phillip, Jeremy Lin Foundation Board Member "Having a conversation, that is often the first step that is overlooked... a lot of minority groups, they just want to be heard. And I think that is the starting point for solidarity." - Jennelle, Chinatown Youth Initiatives (CYI) 🌱 We will continue to humbly listen to our grantee partners on the frontlines serving their communities, those with truly lived experiences leading the way for impact. 🤝 Stay tuned as we continue to share more stories and insights into our journey 🔗 Find out more about our mission and how you can be a part of this journey - https://lnkd.in/d_Awg-8M JLIN LLC The Asian American Foundation https://lnkd.in/eDG3BUn3

[PHILANTHROPIC COLLABORATIVES] “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” -African proverb This is at the heart of donor collaboratives, which are among the fastest-growing and highest-impact drivers of philanthropy. We are grateful to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and The Bridgespan Group for including the Jeremy Lin Foundation x TAAF's Stronger Together Collaborative in its Philanthropic Collaboratives database. We celebrate our grantee and funding partners, and the multiplier and amplifier effects of listening, learning, and funding together! In our continuing series showcasing the heart of the @jlinfoundation, we look into our approach to philanthropy - one that's deeply rooted in love, respect, and empowerment of our grantees. "One thing that we want to practice is how to love our grantees in a very counter-cultural way... more bottoms up, more grantee-centered, more youth-centered.” -Lucy Yang, Jeremy Lin Foundation "When we had the initial conversation, we didn't have to pitch... we want to show the world how incredible our youth are and how we feel about them and who they are, and present them authentically for everything that they are, and I feel like we were able to do that." -Aaron, (South Asian Youth Action (SAYA) https://lnkd.in/gW8AJzZW 🌱 This philosophy isn't just about providing resources; it's about fostering a community where our youth and grantees feel genuinely seen, heard, and supported. 🤝 Stay tuned as we continue to share more stories and insights into our journey 🔗 Find out more about our mission and how you can be a part of this journey - https://lnkd.in/d_Awg-8M

Building bridges, fostering solidarity, and envisioning a brighter tomorrow. We stand proudly behind the stellar work carried out by the Jeremy Lin Foundation in partnership with The Asian American Foundation. Our recent endeavor, the Stronger Together Collaborative, is a testimony to the power of unity, understanding, and collaborative effort. In support of 9 dedicated community-rooted organizations, we facilitated a space where underserved AAPI youth in NYC could come together to share, learn, and forge stronger bonds with other communities of color. Through open dialogues and educational workshops spearheaded by the @buildingmovementproject, we are nurturing a ground where solidarity is not just a word, but a lived experience. Take a moment to witness the inspiring journey of these young individuals, a journey where every step is a stride towards a future steeped in mutual respect and collective strength. It's more than a project; it's a movement towards a society where we are, indeed, #StrongerTogether. Let us build a future where we rise, united. #AAPI #CommunityBuilding #Solidarity #FutureLeaders

The Stronger Together Collaborative (Jeremy Lin Foundation x The Asian American Foundation) supports 9 community-rooted underserved AAPI youth organizations that are bridge building and coalition building with other communities of color in solidarity. These organizations give us a glimpse of what underserved AAPI youth in New York City struggle with daily, and the future that they are fighting for. The organizations requested a safe space TOGETHER to speak, listen, learn, and connect. Last month, along with facilitators @buildingmovementproject, we gathered together for a Building Solidarity Together workshop. Check out the video! We are so inspired by the impact of each organization catalyzing change for the AAPI community and working with other marginalized communities. Thank you for being on this journey in building a future where we are STRONGER TOGETHER.
