#JewishFederations work to safeguard and improve laws, like the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which support full inclusion in and accessibility of education, employment, transportation and more. We celebrate that, on this day in 1990, the ADA was signed into law!

The Fast of Tammuz is a Jewish fast day commemorating the breach of Jerusalem's walls before the destruction of the Second Temple. It falls on the 17th day of the Hebrew month of Tammuz, marking the start of a three-week mourning period leading to Tisha B'Av. Observant Jews fast from sunrise to sunset, refraining from eating and drinking as a sign of mourning and repentance for the Temple's destruction. Customs include special prayers, reading from Lamentations, and reflecting on the Temple's significance in Jewish history and faith. The fast serves as a reminder of sin's consequences and the importance of repentance in Jewish tradition.

Did You Know? On July 11, 1947, the Exodus 1947 set sail from France, carrying 4,500 Jewish passengers—mostly Holocaust survivors—bound for then-Mandatory Palestine, the future State of Israel. This historic ship played a pivotal role in the post-World War II history of Jewish refugees, as part of an unauthorized immigration operation. Following British interception near Haifa, the ship's return to Europe sparked global outcry, shedding light on refugee struggles. Known as "the ship that launched a nation," the Exodus 1947 inspired the 1960 film 'Exodus' featuring Jewish-American star Paul Newman as well as Leon Uris' 1958 historical novel of the same name. #SSExodus #HolocaustSurvivors #RefugeeHistory #JewishHistory #WorldWarII #Resilience #Perseverance #HistoricalEvent
