Congratulations to Page, KieranTimberlake, Fisher Dachs Associates, Theatre Planning & Design, and the consultant team that collaborated on the New York University John A. Paulson Center for being recognized with two awards from The American Institute of Architects (AIA): Excellence in Architecture and Excellence in the Design of Education Facilities! "The new Center embodies the vibrancy and character of New York University, while integrating innovative pathways for users to engage, learn, work, play, and live." Jaffe Holden's scope included the acoustic and audio/video design of the performing arts spaces, featuring the 350-seat Iris Cantor Proscenium Theatre, NYU’s first professional-level proscenium theatre; the African Grove Theatre, an end stage theatre named in honor of the first Black theatre in America; the black box theatre; the orchestra ensemble rehearsal room; and various classrooms and rehearsal spaces throughout the facility. The Paulson Center serves not only the undergraduate community at NYU; students at the graduate level working toward their Master’s and PhD’s have access to the very best learning environments, with several spaces for NYU Tisch School of the Arts and NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development housed within this monumental 735,000 SF multi-use facility. #acoustics #acousticdesign #audiovideo #avdesign #sounddesign #performingarts #musiceducation #highereducation #nyu #newyork #theaterdesign #jaffeholden #page #kierantimberlake #fisherdachs #aia #aec

Bravo to the Beatles-themed Cirque du Soleil show "LOVE" on an incredible 18-year run at The Mirage in Las Vegas! This renowned production, celebrated for its blend of acrobatics, dance, and iconic Beatles music, has been a staple of the Las Vegas entertainment circuit, attracting tens of millions of fans throughout the years. At the show's inception, The Siegfried and Roy Showroom and Theatre in the MGM Mirage was converted from a traditional proscenium theatre to a theatre-in-the-round to increase intimacy and connect the audience with the LOVE performers. Jaffe Holden collaborated with Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group, MGM, Apeiro Design, and sound designer Jonathan Deans to create a space that would support and enhance the Beatles' music and Cirque's show design. Jaffe Holden established theatre acoustics with tight bass and brilliant highs, as requested by Sir George Martin and his son Giles, who remixed the soundtrack. To say this endeavor was an honor and a privilege would be an understatement. Kudos to our client, Apeiro Design, the AV and theater consultants on this project, as well as the performers and showrunners on a remarkable achievement! #acoustics #acousticdesign #performingarts #beatles #lasvegas #cirquedusoleil #theater #dance #acrobatics #mirage #apeiro

We are proud to see The Pavilion at Bethel Woods named the top music venue in New York State! The Bethel Woods Center for the Arts is an outdoor performing arts center and museum located at the site of the original 1969 Woodstock Music and Art Fair. The pavilion is a 4,800-seat music facility designed to serve all types of programming ranging from rock music to symphonic orchestras. The orchestra shell was designed by Jaffe Holden and consists of 10 wooden towers and four wooden ceiling pieces. These wooden pieces are in place for performances of the New York Philharmonic, Wynton Marsalis, and other performers that want an unplugged sound. For rock concerts, the towers can be removed and stored to provide appropriate sound levels. Jaffe Holden also designed a state of the art house sound system for the lawn and pavilion area that provides sound for community groups as well as infrastructure for touring bands. Plan a visit this summer to this historic site and top-rated music venue in New York! #acoustics #acousticdesign #avdesign #audiovideo #livesound #performingarts #music #woodstock #festival #amphitheater #outdoorconcert #newyork #musicvenue

The Field Arts & Events Hall is a new cultural hub in Port Angeles, WA, that includes a 500-seat performance hall, a conference center with stunning views, a fine art gallery, and community spaces. The Hall aims to rejuvenate the waterfront by supporting arts, business, and community activities, serving as a testament to local creative talent. The design emphasizes local history and environment, featuring regionally sourced timber and expansive glass for panoramic views. A prominent feature is the curtain wall made from locally sourced timber mullions, which provides views of the multilevel lobby and conference spaces. The wood lobby ceiling, integrated with lighting that mimics sunlight, enhances the natural aesthetic. Other materials used include high-pressure laminate panels, precast concrete, and fiber cement panels. Lincoln Center's latest initiative aims to reconnect with its historical roots by revitalizing its western edge, as detailed in last week's edition of The New York Times. The redesign, led by Hood Design Studio, Weiss/Manfredi, and Moody Nolan, seeks to honor the cultural heritage of San Juan Hill by enhancing accessibility and creating intimate, neighborhood-friendly spaces. Jaffe Holden will be providing acoustic and audio/video design services. The project plans to replace the concrete wall with open access along Amsterdam Avenue, integrate community feedback, and commemorate the area's significant contributions to jazz and Black culture. This effort, which includes new public art and digital archives, represents a step towards restitution and broader engagement with the community, ensuring Lincoln Center remains a welcoming and inclusive cultural landmark. In a remarkable feat of engineering, New York City's iconic Palace Theater has been lifted 30 feet into the air to make room for a new hotel and retail space. The 111-year-old, 7,000-ton theater, which has hosted legends like Judy Garland and Bette Midler, underwent a meticulous nine-year renovation process, including a two-week period in February 2022 when it was elevated at a painstakingly slow pace of one inch per hour. On the exterior of the building, Jaffe Holden collaborated with the development team to custom design a large moveable wall system that enables a large portion of the exterior LED display to open up to reveal the I.C.O.N. Stage to audiences in Times Square. When the LED wall is closed, the 150-seat indoor venue is isolated from the outdoor bustle of the busiest corner in the most heavily trafficked public space in the world. The project has preserved the historic character of the theater while modernizing its facilities. The theater's grand reopening in May 2024 celebrated its storied past and bright future, continuing its legacy as one of New York's most famous cultural landmarks. The David H. Koch Theatre at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, a key venue for the New York City Ballet, has significantly upgraded its communication systems with Clear-Com technology. These enhancements are crucial for hosting events like last week's 2024 Tony Awards. Originally built in 1964, the theatre continues to modernize its infrastructure to maintain its status as a premier performing arts venue, thanks to substantial philanthropic support and cutting-edge technological advancements. Jaffe Holden's acoustic design for this project has continued to stand the test of time, with past recommendations that included enlarging the orchestra pit to increase the acoustic presence of the orchestra and improve balance and communication between the orchestra and performers, modifying the stage apron, covering the seats in new material with optimal acoustic characteristics, and designing an attractive and acoustically reflective fire curtain to create a more flexible performance space. Our team also recommended the installation of new acoustic side walls near the theater’s proscenium to provide early reflectors and increased presence, as well as quieting the existing and newly installed HVAC systems and lighting. Using sophisticated design techniques and computer simulations, we upgraded and modernized important elements in the theater to enhance the artistic experience for opera and ballet audiences and performers alike. #acoustics #acousticdesign #theaterdesign #performingarts #lincolncenter #finearts #design #engineering #architecture #construction #music #opera #ballet
