We're a third generation construction company that keeps an entire region moving.
About us
Lynch’s long-standing history, track-record of success, and close-knit company culture speaks for itself: a legacy of superior experience, commitment, and integrity. Since James H. Lynch founded a small asphalt paving company of ten or fifteen “good” men in the 1940’s, Lynch has evolved from a residential asphalt driveway operation to a fully integrated construction company of more than 400 employees in six locations in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. Lynch serves its customers and contracts with six material manufacturing plants, providing resources to build the region’s complex, large-scale public and private construction projects, including transportation, infrastructure, landfill, site excavation, and utility projects. Lynch prides itself on its people. Our high employee retention rate (tenures of 20 to 30 years are not uncommon) reflects our long-term commitment to develop and grow our workforce, as individuals, professionals, and collaborators. We are team-oriented and value the participation of all employees at all levels. We have a collegial, competitive spirit that brings “can do” problem-solving expertise to every project. We get it done!

If I didn’t currently work for the US Army at the U.S. Naval War College, I’d want to be on the job site with J.H. Lynch & Sons, Inc. Who knew sitting in four months of 40min traffic at the Rhode Island Turnpike & Bridge Rhode Island Department of Transportation Newport Pell Bridge could be so interesting! Watching the symphony of equipment and skilled workers reminds me of the excitement of executing combined arms operations at the tactical and operational level. I’m sure those involved in this huge project apply many of the same techniques used in the commander’s estimate, operational art, military planning process, and the rheostat of detailed vs. mission command execution approaches. Even as a kid we joked about roadway construction in RHODE ISLAND AND PROVIDENCE PLANTATIONS, STATE OF but now I see it differently. I better understand the difficulties in such monumental projects and the importance of both skilled workers at the job site and management that is able to arrange those skilled efforts in a way that accounts for a variety of physical, financial, time, civil, and political variables.

Please join us in celebrating all of the women at J.H. Lynch & Sons, Inc. and in the construction industry! WIC Week™, or Women in Construction Week™, celebrates and promotes the role of women in the construction industry. The National Association of Women in Construction held the first WIC Week in 1998 and it has grown and expanded each year since. Many local chapters hold WIC Week events, which can include making presentations to high school classes, job site tours, luncheons and virtual events. This year's theme, 'Keys to the Future', celebrates the strength and knowledge of women and the vital role they play in shaping the future of the construction industry. https://wicweek.org/ #wicweek #wicweek24 #womeninconstructionweek2024

J.H. Lynch & Sons, Inc. recently completed over 65,000 tons of HMA resurfacing on Interstate 95 in southern Rhode Island for the Rhode Island Department of Transportation. We partnered with Topcon Positioning Systems to conduct a scan of over 35 lane miles using the Smoothride Modern Road Resurfacing System, collecting data to develop a variable depth milling plan, providing a consistent surface in preparation for resurfacing and optimizing final rideability. We are proud to report that the average finished International Roughness Index (IRI) for the project was less than 35 inches per mile, allowing Lynch to receive the maximum price incentive for ride quality! Great job, and a sincere thank you to the entire team! BLACK & BOUCHER LLC | Caterpillar Inc. | Weiler | WIRTGEN GROUP | E.D. J.H. Lynch & Sons, Inc. successfully completed the first lateral bridge slide project in Rhode Island in 2019, rapidly replacing Bridge 078101 carrying Route 4 over Lafayette Road in North Kingstown for the Rhode Island Department of Transportation. During each of the two weekend crossover periods, the existing superstructures were demolished, and the new bridges were slid into place, all while maintaining traffic flow in each direction on Route 4. A sincere thank you to all of the team members that contributed to the success of this project. Well Done!
