Last night in LA, the IWMF hosted our 35th annual #Courage in Journalism Awards, honoring remarkable women journalists who bravely report despite incredible odds. Hosted by Charmaine DeGraté, Willow Bay, and Gelila Assefa Puck, the ceremony celebrated the extraordinary resilience of those pursuing truth amid unprecedented challenges. We recognized Lauren Chooljian from New Hampshire Public Radio; Mónica Villacís Velásquez of La Posta; and shin daewe, our Wallis Annenberg Justice for Women Journalists Award recipient. We were also joined by 2020 awardee Gulchehra Hoja, a Uyghur journalist living in exile. These inspiring journalists remind us of the vital role media plays in democracy. We're thrilled to announce our collaboration with DeleteMe and Microsoft's Democracy Forward Initiative to safeguard women and nonbinary journalists from doxxing as we approach the presidential elections. This partnership will provide free DeleteMe memberships to remove journalists' personal information from search engines and data broker sites. With 30% of reporters facing digital violence and 70% of women journalists experiencing harassment related to their work, this initiative is crucial for protecting those essential to our democracy.
