SBRI Healthcare is delighted to announce two new funding competitions. Competition 25, Phase 1, Antimicrobial Resistance, and Women’s Health: - Contracts for technical and commercial feasibility valued at up to £100,000 (NET) for six months. Applications are open 17th July – 28th Aug (1pm).   Competition 26, Phase 3, Urgent & Emergency Care, and Stroke: - Contracts for the collection of evidence in real-world settings valued at up to £500,000 (NET) for a maximum of 12 months. Applications are open 31st July – 18th September. The SBRI team have had a great couple of days celebrating the end of our Patient Comms Project with challenge lead Tracey Williamson. Thanks to Dyfed Edwards , Chairman of Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board for taking the time to join us to hear about the project. A special thank you to Rachel Wright and her PALS team for all of their support given throughout the project. Clinical colleagues in Ysbyty Gwynedd and Ysbyty Glan Clwyd have worked immensely hard collaborating with the suppliers Redstar and Round Safely to deliver this pilot to improve communications with relatives whilst their loved ones are in hospital. We will keep you updated on developments post project. UK Home Office is running a Contracts for Innovation competition to develop systems capable of automatically detecting knives concealed on a person, at a distance, to be used by police forces. It was great to meet up again with awardees of Innovate UK Contracts for Innovation grants at the UK Centre for Greening Finance and Investment (CGFI) Forum last week. We've all been using these awards to develop a range of environment-related financial analytics tools. Some really exciting outputs now being delivered by folk including Dr Andrew Pledger at Previsico, Tom Philp at Maximum Information, Ed Suttie BUILDING RESEARCH ESTABLISHMENT LIMITED and many others. The support from Innovate UK (Catherine Makin) has made a big difference, as has the work of CGFI in making it possible: Ben Caldecott, Matt Scott, Christophe Christiaen, Iain Clacher, Janak Padhiar and all the consortium members. As these awards draw to their conclusion, I'd like to thank Martin Westmoreland, the IUK Monitoring Officer assigned to Watermarq, for all of his support these past couple of years.

In 2018, Innovate UK and the Department for Transport launched a Contracts for Innovation challenge to develop solutions for improving transport accessibility. Recognising the barriers disabled and older passengers face when arranging assistance for train travel, Transreport secured funding to develop their award-winning Passenger Assistance app. Now used by 700,000 people across the UK, the app significantly improves accessibility and customer satisfaction by reducing the assistance booking period from 24 hours to just two hours. Innovate UK are experts in the application and delivery of Contracts for Innovation in the UK. Over 100 public sector organisations have successfully used this unique, mutually beneficial funding mechanism, leading to groundbreaking projects solving challenges faced across the public sector. Launching Innovate UK Contracts for Innovation 🚨🚨 Yesterday we marked the relaunch and enhancement of SBRI, now known as 'Contracts for Innovation'. Contracts for Innovation solves critical public sector challenges and drives economic growth in the UK by awarding 100% funded R&D contracts to innovative organisations. Last year alone, the initiative supported more than £140m of public investment into testing innovative solutions. Working across the Innovate UK system, the initiative will harness our full suite of products and services to aid businesses in developing, delivering, and scaling up solutions. Contracts for Innovation competitions are open to any size or type of organisation, including businesses of any size, academic and research organisations, not-for-profits and charities.
