🗨️ The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) is the only Multilateral Development Bank that has shareholders entirely from the #GlobalSouth, said Dr. Issa Faye, Head of Delegation of IsDB to #UNGA79, at a climate policy dialogue focusing on #SouthSouth and #TriangularCooperation pathways to the #SDGs. IsDB has a unique perspective in being a voice of the South. We are working and struggling with developing countries, said Dr. Faye. We believe that #SouthSouthCorporation for climate action must have a fair distribution of costs, taking into account specificities and long-term needs. IsDB Reverse Linkage mechanism facilitates demand-driven matchmaking between countries, to share knowledge, resources, skills, and technologies through South-South and triangular cooperation.

  • #New York: Representing the #IsDB_Group Chairman in the Heads of MDBs meeting with the UN on the margins of #unga79, our Vice President of Finance, Dr. Zamir Igbal, and other esteemed MDBs leaders have held a strategic discussion with the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and top UN officials in an unprecedented joint effort to help countries accelerate progress toward meeting the #Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.   The extraordinary meeting marked a reinvigorated partnership between the #UN and #MDBs to boost the impact of multilateral institutions. It was underscored that countries need between $2.5 trillion and $4 trillion in additional financing and investment each year to meet the 2030 deadline. To achieve this, MDBs aim to play a crucial role in narrowing the financing gap with the support of their shareholders.   The discussion focused on three strategic areas of collaboration: reinforcing MDBs' efforts to become a better, bigger, and more effective multilateral system; enhancing effective partnership between the UN and MDBs at the country level, especially in fragile and conflict-affected countries; and catalyzing private-sector resources to increase sustainable investment in developing countries.   The #UN and #MDBs agreed to collaborate on the 4th International Financing for Development Conference (FfD4) next year in Seville, Spain. At this conference, countries are expected to decide how to increase development financing and discuss how to improve the international financial architecture.   MDB leaders highlighted steps to accelerate the SDGs based on the 16 concrete deliverables outlined in the "Viewpoint Note," a joint MDB work plan released in April 2024. These wide-ranging initiatives include scaling up MDB financing capacity, boosting joint action on climate, and catalyzing private-sector investment. The MDBs also discussed how they can channel special drawing rights (SDRs) to significantly increase financing for the SDGs, including supporting initiatives such as the G20 Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty.
