With approximately 20- 30% of the global population experiencing some form of disability - ranging from vision and hearing impairments to mobility limitations and cognitive-processing difficulties - a vast and influential demographic with significant purchasing power remains underserved in the travel industry. Considerations such as user-friendly interface designs and the integration of AI with chatbots can ensure travel loyalty programs are inclusive, setting a precedent for accessibility standards within the industry, beyond a check-the-box approach. By doing so, companies can tap into a market that values and requires these features, fostering a loyal customer base and opening new profitable revenue streams. Our very own accessibility specialist and software engineer, Zivile Januleviciute Goodwin, recently shared some of the best practices she's learned in developing digital products and experiences within the travel loyalty and booking space with UXmatters. As we approach mid-2024, financial services companies are adapting to significant challenges in the loyalty landscape. Here's a sneak peek into our latest blog post on the trends impacting financial loyalty programs this quarter: - Consumer Credit Growth vs. Financial Headwinds: While consumer credit increased by 1.5% in April, high interest rates are straining lending institutions. Bank of America saw net charge-offs rise by over 80% in Q1. - Declining Loyalty: Consumers now hold accounts with an average of 2.6 financial institutions, and 46% are open to switching banks. This trend is driving banks to broaden their rewards strategies and create better digital loyalty experiences. - Expanding Rewards Options: Credit card issuers are diversifying rewards, aligning with consumers' expectations for more value and options. - Preparing for New Swipe Fee Regulations: The upcoming reduction in transaction fees is pushing financial institutions to innovate and enhance their loyalty programs. - Enhancing Digital Experiences: Banks are streamlining their digital loyalty portals to offer more cohesive and accessible user experiences. Despite current challenges, these proactive strategies aim to deliver added value and improve customer experiences, setting the stage for a potential loyalty renaissance in 2025.
