In 1963, a pivotal year in United States history, the nation grappled with deep-seated racial injustice, prompting fear and uncertainty among its people. Amidst this turbulence, a remarkable group of twelve courageous and visionary men emerged. These individuals, driven by an unwavering commitment to social justice and equal rights, defied the status quo and fearlessly fought for the rights and lives of Black individuals. Their actions were rooted in self-preservation and a profound sense of duty toward their fellow citizens. These twelve men, characterized by their intellect, strength, and shared values, united to establish an organization that served as a beacon of hope and empowerment for their communities. Their backgrounds were diverse, encompassing established family lives, military service, and dedicated work to provide for their loved ones. Their collective mission was to cultivate an organization of substance that transcended mere revelry and entertainment. Instead, they sought to instill the values of scholarship, leadership, citizenship, fidelity, and brotherhood among men within their communities. Now, sixty-one years later, we celebrate the enduring legacy of these visionary founders and pay homage to their unwavering dedication. Their tireless efforts have propelled Iota Phi Theta to become one of the nation's most prominent and revered organizations. Their impact extends far and wide, reaching even the highest office in the land, as the President of the United States acknowledges and commends the work and dedication of Iota Phi Theta. To all the dedicated members of Iota Phi Theta, take pride in the hard work and commitment you have invested in building this extraordinary organization. Your collective identity as intelligent, outstanding, and talented achievers reflects the enduring spirit of the founders. As we celebrate Founders' Day, let us embrace the legacy of "It Takes a Man" and continue to uphold the values of Iota Phi Theta. Here’s to 61 years of greatness and the ongoing tradition you have diligently cultivated. Dr. Sean D. Housen, Sr 23rd International Grand Polaris #IPT1963 #IotaPhiTheta #FoundersDay #September19th
