📊 Review and Gap Assessment of Bulk Hydrogen Storage Report📊 We are excited to share the findings from the IPHE Bulk Storage Task Force's recent gap assessment on the regulations, codes, and standards for large-scale hydrogen storage. The review identifies critical areas for technical research and necessary regulatory changes to enable safe and effective bulk hydrogen storage. Some Insights Include: 🕒 Current State: Bulk hydrogen storage of >10 tonnes in above-ground tanks is relatively rare globally, with no reported instances of >10-tonne capacity in underground tanks. 🪨 Geologic or Subsurface Storage: Hydrogen storage in geologic or subsurface formations has been deployed in a few locations worldwide. ↔️ Regulatory Ambiguities: Some requirements for bulk storage in tanks have ambiguities regarding larger-capacity systems, some jurisdictions address this on a case-by-case basis using accepted hazard and risk assessment methodologies. ✅ Need for Clarity: Resolving ambiguities is important to enable broader deployment of large-scale bulk storage systems across applications. ⏩ Potential Approaches Going Forward: Common risk assessment methodologies and models can inform the basis for requirements. Systems above a certain capacity might benefit from specialized, case-by-case analysis rather than prescriptive requirements. 📖Read the full report at: https://lnkd.in/gbvCQ7iW

🌍 Reflecting on the World Hydrogen Summit 2024 and Exhibition 🌍 With over 15,000 industry professionals, 2,000 delegates, 500 exhibitors and 350 speakers, the World Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition in Rotterdam was an exemplary setting to witness the global drive behind hydrogen as a key of the energy transition. Hydrogen holds enormous potential for transforming our economy and the IPHE (International Partnership for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells in the Economy) is at the forefront of facilitating and accelerating the transition to clean and efficient energy and mobility systems using hydrogen and fuel cell technologies across applications and sectors. The World Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition was a great opportunity to discuss how to advance the hydrogen economy. We want to thank all facilitators and participants for contributing to the exchange of ideas and insights in many sessions and workshops! Among the highlights of the Summit was the 2nd High-Level Roundtable of the International Hydrogen Trade Forum (#IHTF) where leaders emphasized the need for: 1) Long-term commitment from demand 2) Interoperability of standards and certification 3) Capacity building and knowledge sharing, in particular for new exporting countries 4) Unlocking finance, specially in emerging economies Especially in respect to certification, IPHE (International Partnership for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells in the Economy) and IEA Hydrogen TCP was organizing a workshop contributing to align the terminology used in regulations, certification schemes and standardization. This is the first and critical step toward a mutual recognition of certification schemes as signed during COP28 UAE.
