Some teachers are using their summer breaks to take learning outside the classroom through the Iowa STEM Teacher Externship program. Recently, we were able to tag along for a day of Water Sports fun in Jasper County to see how Externs Summer Teed and Micaela Sciarrotta are using the unique experience to teach Iowa students about the world around them. More here⤵️

It’s a beautiful day to visit Iowa STEM Teacher Externs Micaela Sciarrotta and Summer Teed! Micaela and Summer have been working with Jasper County Conservation on numerous camps this summer through the Iowa STEM Teacher Externships program. They’ve worked alongside knowledgeable and skilled naturalists to bring the classroom curriculum to life through summer programming including Junior Naturalist Camp, Wildlife Explorers Camp, Astronomy Camp, Survival Camp, and today’s Water Sports Camp. Thank you Micaela and Summer for your great work and to Marc, their STEM Externships mentor. Thanks also to Jasper County Conservation for partnering with Iowa STEM and hosting this Externships opportunity.

We're celebrating 2024 STEM Externs all summer long! ⭐ Extern: Austin Nordman Externship Host: Kemin Industries Austin has been working with the specialty crop improvement team in fieldwork and lab work, watching the entire extraction process from start to finish. He will also attempt to work with the selective breeding teams at Kemin and find out what they are trying to accomplish. Austin has used many different lab equipment during the extraction process along with many different techniques.

In honor of STEM Day at the Fair, we’re sending a high-altitude air balloon to the upper atmosphere. Best part: everyone is invited to submit payload ideas. If chosen, your cargo launches into space August 18. Think experiments, creative endeavors--the sky is literally the limit! https://lnkd.in/gdJKTWbi
