"So, we wanted land here where they could play outside and get dirty, and we didn’t feel like we were stuck in our space." Beyond the benefits of equity and financial security, Iowa's affordable housing opportunities from purchasing a beautiful home to renting a stylish apartment, means you can live bigger for less(er)! IEDA Director Debi Durham joined local officials to mark the accomplishment and applaud the community’s dedication to business attraction and job creation. This Juneteenth, we’re reflecting on Iowa’s role as a Civil War-era refuge for slaves coming from the southern border. Mount Pleasant, the host city for our Preserve Iowa Summit this month, served as a stop on the Underground Railroad and a hub for abolitionists like Frederick Douglass and Sojourner Truth. The community has worked hard to preserve and even transform historic treasures like Second Baptist Church, the oldest African American church in Iowa. As Iowans, we build a better future by preserving stories so they can be told for generations to come.

Through the Insure Your Future program, college-level students are given the connections and opportunities to gain real-life experience in Iowa's insurance industry to help guide them toward a rewarding career! Thank you Sammons Financial Group Companies for hosting the first session to this incredible program, and to all the participating financial services companies and regional educational institutions taking part to help further Iowa's future workforce!
Iowa Economic Development Authority's Insure Your Future program, designed to introduce undergraduate students to the insurance industry and equip them with valuable leadership skills, recently kicked off its 2024 season. We were honored to host the first session, which featured remarks from program developer Michael Gould and West Des Moines Mayor Russ Trimble. Our very own Anne Cooper, PhD, and Robert TeKolste also helped kick off the event. This program is a great opportunity for college students to learn about the insurance field and build a successful career.
