This month, our Community Development team celebrated the closing of Quest Heritage Village @ West Lake. With the support of $10M in New Markets Tax Credits and $2.5M in Housing Opportunity Bond financing, QuestCDC is renovating the former Waluhaje Hotel Apartment Building into a vibrant mixed-use project that will provide 102 affordable housing units at 30% AMI or below and wrap around services for residents, including a community health clinic, behavioral health space, and community garden. Quest will also partner with CHRIS180 to provide 24 permanent supportive housing units to single 18-24yo men and women who have aged out of the foster care system. Did you know? The Waluhaje Hotel Apartment opened in 1951 on West Lake Avenue and gained fame for its ballroom which hosted many top jazz performers. The Waluhaje was also featured in the famous Green Book travel guides which highlighted establishments where Black travelers were welcome. #MovingAtlantaForward

Establishing Esse Event Planning in 2021 was a culmination of years of hard work and dedication. Sidney Hayes built her skill set by collaborating with upscale restaurants on weddings and apprenticing alongside Atlanta-based wedding and event planners, gaining invaluable experience along the way. However, the turning point for Esse Event Planning came when Sidney reached out to Invest Atlanta's ATLinBusiness program. Partnering with a financial consultant through the program provided Sidney with crucial guidance and insight into launching and growing her business. "Invest Atlanta is like a personal mentor and business partner," Sidney explains. "They guide you through the process of building a business, offering unwavering support every step of the way. You can't expect success to fall into your lap; it requires hard work and dedication. ATLinBusiness is a great starting point for anyone considering starting a new business." ATLinBusiness, provided by Invest Atlanta, offers no-cost services to entrepreneurs within the City of Atlanta. The program simplifies the process of growing a business, providing tailored support in areas of expertise selected by business owners.
