Human trafficking and domestic abuse leave deep scars—physical, emotional and psychological—that can take years to heal. Survivors walk a long and strenuous road to recovery. The past 25 years of working directly with survivors of abuse and trauma around the world have taught us that one of the most critical aspects of ensuring the best outcomes for trafficking and violence survivors is access to trauma-informed care. Last week, IJM joined our partner, Brave Movement, at their #BehindTheScreen film screening in London. This powerful film tells the stories of four survivors of online sexual exploitation - including Saanika Kodial (pictured) - and outlines urgent actions needed to #ProtectKidsOnline. The screening marked just over 100 days until the first-ever Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children. This is a crucial opportunity to elevate violence against children as a global agenda item and accelerate progress toward ending all forms of violence against children. IJM and 50 child protection organizations including Together for Girls, CARE, ChildFund International, International Rescue Committee, Save the Children US, & UNICEF USA urge The White House to ensure high-level U.S. representation and engagement at the conference. In 2022 alone, Honduran public records showed that 3,093 women were victims of femicides — the killing of a woman because of her gender. Yet 90% of femicides go unpunished. In the face of this abuse, IJM and partners launched a new project in Honduras with support from our offices in El Salvador and Guatemala. This project aims to build capacity to serve victims and survivors of violence, ensuring that Honduras can become a place where women and children can expect to be safe and protected. In November 2023, 80 women and girls from Intibucá, a rural region in Honduras gathered for a groundbreaking forum to discuss the obstacles they face as they seek protection and propose solutions to ease their access to justice and restoration services. 🌷 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eDWwaau5
