The 14th International Donor Registry Conference is underway. Charlotte Ingram and Estelle Verburgh welcomed 315 attendees from 47 countries to our pre-conference day. WMDA's Past-President, Bronwen Shaw opened the conference with a brief history and emerging concepts of transplantation. 50 years ago, a very determined mother was searching for a matching donor for her young son. Though finding a match was incredibly difficult and this incredible mother, Shirley Nolan campaigned and took the ground-breaking step of establishing a bone marrow register. At the International Donor Registry Conference, we will be celebrating Shirley's legacy and 50 years of Anthony Nolan. Anthony Nolan's Chief Executive, Henny Braund MBE and Chief Medical and Scientific Officer, Dr Robert Danby will share their ambitious research plans to transform patient survival, quality of life, and equity. Thanks to the support of Anthony Nolan, hematologists and transplant teams from countries without a register will be attending the International Donor Registry Conference. 50 years after Shirley started a register in the United Kingdom, many countries do not have a donor registry. We're very grateful to Anthony Nolan for making all patients and donors matter. We are very proud to announce our Silver Partner, supporting WMDA Search Coordinators, Ossium Health. During the WMDA Meeting on Friday 28 June, the workshop on Search Coordination will take place. Search Coordinators are vitally important in not only helping patients to find a donor, though identifying the best stem cell source and reducing the time to transplant. This is not something you can learn at your local college or university, making training during the WMDA meetings incredibly valuable. The in-person workshop on Search Coordination is an important aspect of continuous professional development, though also a unique chance to meet fellow Search Coordinators from other countries and exchange best practices, difficulties and solutions.
