Good news!! International Copper Association drives Major Change in India’s Copper Industry Last week, India eliminated customs duties on copper concentrate and blister imports. This change opens up new opportunities for trade and investment in the copper sector. ICA has been instrumental in highlighting copper’s importance to India's growth, collaborating on numerous projects in the clean energy sector. India now sees copper as a critical material for development and is working on a 'Copper Industry Roadmap - Vision Document for Developed India @2047' to maximize the potential of this vital metal. Copper enables the technology needed for the green energy transition, which has the potential to abate two-thirds of greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.   International Copper Association Europe's Fernando Nuño spoke with Christina Iosifidou at Siemens Energy about the role copper plays in global electrification and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. “The electricity sector has never been more in need of understanding how emissions build over the value chain. With this exercise, Siemens Energy makes a giant leap in the right direction by connecting copper mines, smelters, refineries, and fabricators with transmission system operators and utilities.”   Learn more ⤵️

Today, the U.S. House Committee on Natural Resources voted to pass HR 8446, the Critical Mineral Consistency Act of 2024. “We are grateful for USGS noting their support for the legislation in testimony last week, and for bipartisan support for the Critical Mineral Consistency Act of 2024 today,” said Adam Estelle, President & CEO of the Copper Development Association (CDA). “With copper demand projected to double by 2035, committee approval of this legislation is a tremendous step towards ensuring copper receives the critical recognition it deserves and requires, to protect and promote our domestic copper industry.” Read more: https://bit.ly/4c9i0R4 #CopperIsCritical #copper
