We are so lucky to have such committed long-term employees, as a company, we try to honor them and their contributions with extra free time to do whatever it is that helps them recharge - and a few words of praise. Today, we celebrate two outstanding team members on the occasion of their 10-year work-anniversaries. Congratulations (and thank you) ✨ Westley Anastasio, P.E. & Todd Kolibaba ✨! To paraphrase: Principal Wesley Lau shares: "Westley exemplifies the best of Interface...He is forward-looking, independent, and resourceful." Principal Jim McClelland shares: "[Todd] is an indispensable member of both our team and our office as a whole. I truly appreciate the ownership he takes on all of his projects, his work ethic, and his positive attitude." It is with a heavy heart I share the passing of one of our dearest colleagues and friends, Dennis Obritschkewitsch. Dennis passed away on Monday, September 23rd, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Dennis, an Associate/Senior Electrical Designer with Team Redwood in Portland, joined the Interface family in July of 1975, and served his entire 49-year career as a dedicated Interface professional. Dennis’ service stands as a truly exceptional testament to his loyalty, dedication, and perseverance. Dennis served with distinction throughout his career and was also a keystone employee who laid the foundation for the growth of Interface into a nationwide firm. Our unique culture can trace its beginnings to Dennis and the example he set for respectful professionalism. Dennis was uniquely kind, cheerful, and always supported, guided, and mentored others to achieve their full potential. Dennis left an enormous impact upon Interface and our future success shall be cemented in his legacy. We shall miss our cherished friend and colleague. Our hearts and deepest condolences go out to Dennis’ family. Rest in peace, Dennis. You will be kept in our memories and greatly missed. Andy Frichtl Managing Principal

Join Interface Engineering, for an informative presentation on the District of Columbia’s Net-Zero Energy compliance pathway to the Energy Conservation Code - Appendix Z. The seminar will clarify the requirements of Appendix Z and the pathway to compliance, focusing on the understanding and practical application for DC-funded projects and soon to be mandatory Net-Zero Energy (NZE) and electrification code for all commercial and multifamily buildings. A compelling Net-Zero Energy Design case study will be offered for Thomas Elementary School, highlighting both the opportunities and challenges associated with the design, permitting, construction and commissioning of Net-Zero Energy projects. Inside Appendix Z: Net-Zero Energy Compliance will be presented by Managing Principal, Roger E. Frechette III, PE and Associate Principal/Senior Electrical Engineer, Culai Silitra, PE. This first seminar in the series is available as both an in-person event and as a webinar. Sometimes construction projects seem to drag on and on forever... Not at all the case for this one, our new wedding and events pavilion at Wind Mountain Ranch, near Stevenson, Washington. The venue is already up and running, hosting weddings with unbelievable views of the Columbia River Gorge. The team at Kirby Nagelhout did a fantastic job on a really tight schedule. We worked hard to distill this structure to its most simple form, to integrate it into the site, and to create a unique venue that would also be flexible enough to allow couples to tailor the lighting, decor, sequence of events, and style to best suit who they are. Lots of cool details on this one, including shou sugi ban (charred wood) siding, hidden gutters, and custom steel hardware that's designed to accommodate hanging decor, to name a few. There are lots more archi-nerdy things to talk about, but I'll save those for when we have professional photography. Architecture: TVA Architects General Contractor: Kirby Nagelhout Construction Company Structural Engineering: DCI Engineers Mechanical and Electrical Engineering: Interface Engineering, Inc. TVA Team: Tim Wybenga, Erik Dorsett, John Gonzales #masstimber #shousugiban

Shout out for 20 Mass from Washingtonian Magazine! The project was recently named CoStar News "Redevelopment of the Year for DC" and praised for its design as well as its environmentally friendly renovation. "Repurposing the building rather than making all-new construction materials saved what amounts to a year’s worth of carbon emissions from nearly 1,500 cars. Other #sustainable features include energy-efficient high-performance lighting and a green roof to capture rainwater. The building is projected to use 66 percent less energy than comparable structures." notes LEO A DALY. Congrats! #interfaceengineering #adaptivereuse
"When it comes to office conversions, 20 Massachusetts Avenue," writes Michele Lerner, "is ahead of its time." The September issue of Washingtonian Magazine features the adaptive reuse project designed by LEO A DALY as a bright spot in the evolving Washington, D.C. Office Real Estate market. While many office conversions have kicked off in response to post-Covid pressures, the 20 Mass project began 2 years before the pandemic. The transformation of a 70s-era office building into a vibrant and sustainable commercial and community hub was recently named CoStar News Redevelopment of the Year for DC. #CommercialRealEstate #AdaptiveReuse #Repositioning #Design #MixedUse Read more: https://lnkd.in/eSeS7ggJ

A big shout out - and thank you - to our latest five-year milestone work anniversary employees: Nolan Murray, EIT, Erick Polk, Kayla Ahnen (Revit Lead), and Adam High. 🎇 Amongst the praise, Principal Jim Sattem, PE, CHC shares: "Nolan's initiative to take on complex tasks, respond to client needs, and go the extra mile to produce a quality product has been invaluable." Principal Andrew Lasse, PE, LEED AP notes: "Erick’s positive attitude and determination have made him an important asset to our team — he’s played a critical role in some of our largest projects, and with some of our best long-term clients. He’s an excellent communicator, and always willing to step up and help us serve our clients the best way we can." Principal Mark O'Leary, PE had more than a few words to share about Kayla: "She anticipates project tasks well with little direction and is proactive keeping models well organized. One of her projects was the TriMet Washington Park Station and Robertson Tunnel that needed to be modelled in Revit. The tunnel system was modeled in Revit from as-built drawings and used in CFD fire simulation by the fire team." Last, but certainly not least, Principal Joe Schmid shares: "It’s hard to overstate Adam’s contribution to our IT systems and company. Since he joined the team in 2019, we have undertaken some of the biggest, most transformational IT changes in Interface’s 55-year history. None would have been possible without Adam’s dedication and thorough, thoughtful planning and follow-through." As a small token of our appreciation, employees get some time and money to recharge ... and our sincere appreciation. https://lnkd.in/etcQD_NJ

It's so nice to see libraries get their due! A community gem and respite. A place to gather and to try new things. Arts and, of course, books. Bravo The Miller Hull Partnership, LLP! #interfaceengineering #libraries
The Architect's Newspaper recently featured Central Library at Stevens Ranch, our mass timber public library project in central Oregon. “The new library by Miller Hull, a practice with offices in Seattle and San Diego, will top out at 3 stories and be built at Stevens Ranch, a tract just east of downtown Bend. The building, Miller Hull shared, is ‘designed to speak to the young, old, studious and synergistic, the Stevens Ranch Library will have a space—and be a place—for everyone.’” Click the link to read the full story: https://bit.ly/3M0Hg0R Client: Dechutes County Design Architect: The Miller Hull Partnership, LLP Local Architect: STEELE Associates Architects Contractor: Kirby Nagelhout Construction Company Contractor (smaller branch projects): SUN WEST BUILDERS Civil Engineer: HWA Inc.
