AI-Powered Manipulation System for Advanced Robotic Service, Manufacturing and Prosthetics

About us

This project is focusing on the question of “How a robot can efficiently learn to manipulate in a purposeful and highly performant way”. IntelliMan will range from learning individual manipulation skills from human demonstration, to learning abstract descriptions of a manipulation task suitable for high-level planning, to discovering an object’s functionality by interacting with it, to guarantee performance and safety. IntelliMan aims at developing a novel AI-Powered Manipulation System with persistent learning capabilities, able to perceive the main characteristics and features of its surrounding by means of a heterogeneous set of sensors, able to decide how to execute a task in an autonomous way and able to detect failures in the task execution in order to request new knowledge through the interaction with humans and the environment. IntelliMan further investigates how such AI-powered manipulation systems are perceived by the users and what factors enhance human acceptability.

𝐌𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐩 𝐢𝐧 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 🚀 The recent study, "Classification of hand and wrist movements via surface electromyogram using the random convolutional kernels transform," introduces a cutting-edge method to interpret complex hand and wrist movements through surface electromyogram (sEMG) signals. Using the random convolutional kernels transform (RCKT), this approach brings remarkable precision to movement classification. 🔍 Imagine the possibilities: more intuitive control for upper limb prosthetics, improved rehabilitation outcomes, and a transformative impact on assistive technologies. With RCKT, we’re closer than ever to devices that respond seamlessly to the user's intent, enhancing functionality and quality of life. 👇 Discover the full research here https://lnkd.in/dBaY5V-Y #prosthetics #sEMG #machinelearning #randomkernels #handmovement #wristmovement #assistivetechnology #innovation #biomedicalengineering #healthtech #research #rehabilitation #upperlimb #classification #signalprocessing #qualityoflife #technology

Robotic manipulation of fresh fruits and vegetables — especially the ability to grasp multiple loose items — addresses a significant industrial demand but still presents challenges for solution providers. As part of the IntelliMan project, at Ocado Technology we're investigating various human grasping and manipulation strategies for picking loose produce. This research is key to developing more efficient robotic prototypes that leverage a range of cutting-edge advancements. In our recent publication, we introduced a robotic demonstrator designed for intelligent manipulation of fresh fruits and vegetables and highlighted the necessity for generic approaches to manage the task's complexities. In this work we present a first version of a robotic setup designed to pick different single or multiple fresh items, featuring multi-fingered compliant robotic gripper. We analyse human grasping strategies from the perspective of industrial Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) used in the logistic sector. The robotic system was validated using the same KPIs, as well as taking into account human performance and strategies. This paper lays the foundation for future development of the robotic demonstrator for fresh fruit and vegetable intelligent manipulation, and outlines the need for generic approaches to handle the complexity of the task. Stay tuned as we continue to innovate in the field of robotics! #AI #Robotics #RoboticManipulation #OcadoTechnology
