Understanding cognitive dissonance is crucial, especially during election times. Developed by Leon Festinger, cognitive dissonance describes the mental uneasiness people feel when their perceptions do not align with other information or beliefs in their environment, such as in political contexts. When this occurs, individuals can reduce their dissonance by: 1️⃣ Changing their current attitude. 2️⃣ Adding cognitions that agree with their pre-existing belief. 3️⃣ Decreasing the importance or perceived validity of conflicting information. Explore the new IPR report, "How Communicators Can Help Manage Election Disinformation," to learn how communicators can foster informed decision-making: buff.ly/3VTTn5z

Dr. Feifei Chen and Dr. Qiwei Luna Wu studied how leaders can protect employees from stress caused by crisis communication. Surveying 361 full-time, remote U.S. employees, they found: - Frequent face-to-face communication increased stress. - Moderate channels (emails, phones, voicemails, instant messengers, blogs) reduced stress. - Overuse of newsletters and posters during long crises escalated stress. - To minimize stress, leaders should use moderate media channels to reach all employees, regardless of their work setting.
