Had an amazing time at the ACEEE Summer Study last week! We learned so much and left feeling energized. It was a pleasure to present and lead a workshop alongside my colleague Daniel Carpenter-Gold. A special highlight was getting to spend face-to-face time with our partners at Institute for Market Transformation, Arup, and the Healthy Homes Working Group—finally connecting in person after so many Zoom calls. Looking forward to applying all that we’ve gained!

We worked hard this week to put out broad, proactive communications to explain the changes Louisianans will start to see on their utility bills. I'm counting it as a win to see so many positive comments in response . . . which is not always a given for a blue leader in a red state. I can't take credit for the good outfit though, that's all Davante Lewis!

It was an absolute joy to get to spend a good part of my time at IMT in partnership with the People's Climate Innovation Center and their team (Corrine Van Hook-Turner, Jaime Love, Esmeralda Hic). This is a great opportunity for learning, networking, and making an impact. Apply if you're eligible - share broadly if you're not!

With at least 21 presentations discussing building performance standards (BPS) at The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE)'s 2024 Summer Study on Energy Efficiency in Buildings, the excitement around BPS only continues to grow. Several IMT staff also attended (and had a blast!), including Amy Boyce, Jessica Miller, Alex Dews, Cliff Majersik, Rajiv Ravulapati, Alexes Juarez, and Marshall Duer-Balkind. Have you checked out our Summer Study papers? If you haven't, add them to your reading list! 📚 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gj7fP824

We're currently accepting applications for our yearly regranting program! Black, Brown, Indigenous, POC, and people representing Frontline Communities, historically marginalized groups, and environmental justice communities are strongly encouraged to apply. There are two funding streams available: Empowerment Grants range from $10,000 - $30,000 and are intended for grassroots-level organizations advancing equitable building decarbonization at the local level. Examples of past projects include community engagement and education on the benefits of decarbonization, increasing organizational capacity, and advocacy projects. Participation Stipends range from $750 - $3,000 and are intended to financially support Midwest BDC members taking on projects outside of regularly attending Coalition meetings. New members are welcome to apply! (Coalition membership is always free). You can find more information on our regranting program including handbooks for each funding stream and links to apply with the link below. Applications are due August 30th at 5 PM EST. https://lnkd.in/gPNqfAcE

Frustrated that fossil fuel groups were successful in relegating crucial building decarbonization code provisions to mere appendices? I am, and it feels like dealing with a case of appendicitis—sudden, painful, and requiring urgent action. Join the #Appendixitis effort (pardon the pun) and help move energy efficiency and electrification back into the main body of the IECC base code, where they belong!
