If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere, to quote both Frank Sinatra and Jay-Z. The same goes for EV charging. If it can be made to work well in America's toughest city for cars and driving, it can probably be successful elsewhere too. Brooklyn-based ride-hail start-up Revel—which operates neon blue Teslas and other EVs in the city—inaugurated on Thursday Manhattan’s first public fast charging station that will be open round the clock. Located by the FDR Drive freeway along the East River, the station is home to 10 320-kilowatt stalls made by Finnish manufacturer Kempower. It will serve all EVs with both NACS and CCS connectors.

Cox Automotive Inc. projects 1.3 million EVs will be sold in the U.S. this year, up slightly from 1.2 million in 2023. “The story is steady demand, a slower pace, yet record sales." Another bright spot is the used-EV market, which is still relatively tiny but is growing fast.

Local businesses are cashing in on charging station wait times. A new study from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has confirmed what most of us have already suspected: EV charging stations aren't just better for the environment; they're also money printers. And it's not just charging network providers who see green—so do nearby shops.

It’s important to note that—and regular readers of this website are probably tired of hearing this—more and more people are buying electric vehicles. Some brands are seeing stellar numbers. It’s just that EVs aren’t flying off of the proverbial shelves like they did over the last couple of years. But as is usually the case, a couple of sad-looking numbers don’t tell the whole story, Tim Levin reports. Here's what's really going on: https://lnkd.in/eBmhQgep

We put 1,000 miles on a Hyundai Motor America Kona with just Level 2 public charging and the car’s included Level 1 cord. We learned that you may not worry about range as much as you think, or need DC fast-charging either.

Tesla doesn’t have as big a lead over its competitors as it once did. Although its EVs are still among the best, competing automakers have caught up and have even surpassed Tesla in some areas. Here are some of our favorites.
