From Concept to Completion:  This oceanfront site, previously home to the Ocean Breeze Club, has been renovated into a new four-star Daytona Beach Renaissance Hotel. The 11-story, 190-room hotel has modern amenities that include a restaurant with outdoor dining overlooking the ocean. The pool area includes features such as a waterwall, cabanas and an outdoor beachclub bar. The event lawn will have terraced amphitheater seating which provides an area of entertainment for guests and special events like weddings and parties. Did you know that incorporating well-placed trees on your property can significantly reduce heat?  5 ways trees keep us cool: 1 - SHADING: Trees provide direct shade, which can lower surface and ambient temperatures. By shading buildings, walkways, parking lots, and outdoor seating areas, trees reduce the heat absorbed by these surfaces by as much as 20-45 degrees F, which in turn reduces the heat radiated into the environment. 2 - HEAT ISLAND MITIGATION: Urban heat islands occur when natural land cover is replaced with dense concentrations of pavement, buildings, and other surfaces that absorb and retain heat. Trees help mitigate heat islands by shading these surfaces and providing cooling through evapotranspiration, thus reducing overall temperatures. 3 - THERMAL MASS EFFECT: Trees, particularly large ones, can serve as thermal masses that absorb and slowly release heat, moderating temperature fluctuations. This can help maintain cooler temperatures during the day and reduce the intensity of heat waves. 4 - ENERGY EFFICIENCY: Shading by trees can reduce the cooling load on buildings, decreasing the need for air conditioning. This not only reduces energy consumption but also lowers the emission of heat from air conditioning units, further contributing to a cooler environment. 5 - REFLECTIVE COOLING: Trees with broad leaves can reflect a portion of incoming solar radiation, preventing it from reaching the ground and heating up surfaces. This reflective cooling effect contributes to the overall reduction of heat on the property.
