Infrasense was recently in Illinois scanning several bridge decks with infrared thermography (IRT) and high-resolution video (HRV) to map areas of delamination, patching, and spalling. With our high-speed deck scanning system, data collection can be carried out without traffic control and cover up to 30 decks in a single day! #bridges #bridgeinspection #illinois #nde #infrared #thermography #scanning

Nondestructive Evaluation of Transportation Infrastructure Since 1987
About us
Infrasense is a client-focused consulting firm that specializes in the non-destructive evaluation (NDE) of bridge decks, highway and airfield pavements, tunnels, parking structures, and other transportation facilities. The company was founded in 1987 with support from National Science Foundation (NSF) Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) Grants. Since then, Infrasense has provided NDE consulting and testing services using ground penetrating radar (GPR), infrared thermography, seismic, vibrations, impact echo, ultrasonic testing, imaging and image processing. Infrasense has completed projects for clients in all fifty US States, Canada, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Our staff brings many years of practical experience and our methods are supported and continually improved through ongoing research and development efforts. We provide our clients with highly accurate and actionable information, enabling cost-effective, network-level assessments, and project-specific maintenance and rehabilitations decisions.

Infrasense recently completed a subsurface scan of a section of highway in Massachusetts to identify underlying voiding and boulders. Results included locations, sizes, and depths of detected conditions provided in CAD and ArcGIS compatible formats. If you have upcoming projects where detecting subsurface conditions would be of value, we'd be happy to hear from you at [email protected]. #gpr #scanning #subsurface #voids #geophysics

Infrasense is excited to be exhibiting at the National Bridge Preservation Conference (NBPC) this week in beautiful Salt Lake City, UT. It’s great to meet with our bridge colleagues and discuss ways nondestructive evaluation can be of value to preservation projects. #nbpc #bridge #preservation #nde #bridgeinspection

Infrasense completed a comprehensive subsurface survey of a site in NH last week to map underlying utilities and other obstructions. The survey included the use of 3D ground penetrating radar (3DGPR) which was mainly collected using an ATV. This allowed for complete coverage of 6 acres in a single day! #utilities #subsurfacemapping #survey #GPR #groundpenetratingradar #NH

Infrasense engineers were recently in southern Rhode Island performing nondestructive scanning of the abutments of a bridge in order to quantify and map concrete deterioration, as well as map the spacing and depth of reinforcing steel. If you have upcoming projects where substructure condition information would be helpful, we'd be happy to hear from you at [email protected]. #bridge #inspection #ndt #deterioration #concrete #abutment #gpr

Infrasense is excited to have been recently awarded an U.S. Department of Transportation SBIR Phase I project to develop a method for low-cost, rapid assessment of chloride content in concrete bridge decks. Assessment of chloride contamination is an integral component of bridge deck preservation and normally requires lane closures and drilled samples to assess only a few locations. The new method would map the complete chloride distribution with minimal if any closures. The Phase I feasibility study includes investigating Infrasense’s database of bridge decks where chloride samples have been taken along with GPR data, analysis of this data for patterns and relationships, analytic simulations with an electromagnetic model to investigate the relationship between GPR signals and the degree of deck chloride permeation, and verification testing of the new method on decks in service. Phase II would build upon the Phase I work and include the development and implementation of a prototype system. #GPR #electromagnetic #ndt #bridge #bridgeinspection #chloride #corrosion #concrete #research #SBIR

Infrasense has many on-going subsurface utility engineering (SUE) projects throughout the northeast. A comprehensive approach is taken for each project that includes reviewing as-built records (QL-D), locating relevant surface features (QL-C), locating subsurface utilities with geophysical methods (QL-B), and for select projects, excavation at target locations (QL-A). If you have an upcoming project where subsurface utility mapping would be of value, we'd be happy to hear from you at [email protected]. #utilities #SUE #utilitymapping #surveying #transportation #geophysics #groundpenetratingradar #design #massachusetts #newengland

Infrasense has multiple on-going pavement and bridge testing projects in the Tri-State Area. These projects include ground penetrating radar (GPR) and falling weight deflectometer (FWD) testing of pavement sections; infrared thermography, video, and GPR scanning of bridge decks; and a suite of testing for evaluating bridge substructures. If you have an upcoming project where we can be of assistance, we'd be happy to hear from you at [email protected]. #NY, #NJ, #CT, #pavement, #bridge, #GPR, #testing, #nondestructive

Summer is finally here and things are heating up with Aerial Infrared bridge deck scanning projects! With aerial infrared, we are able to scan up to 200 bridge decks in a single day and produce quantities and maps of delamination, spalling, and patching! If you'd like to learn more about this service, we'd be happy to hear from you at [email protected]. #bridge #infrared #concrete #bridgeinspection #bridgemanagement
