What's one of the finest TV Title Sequences ever? Dare I say, unskippable. People often ask me about my favorite title sequence. Though it sometimes can change in the moment, I have to say this is always in my top 5. But why does it work for me? and why don't I skip it? 1. It's simple. The concept of Don falling is an actual 'idea'. While many titles often explore the universe, tone and vibe of a show—not many explore a theme. i.e. the downfall/journey of a man. 2. It's short. It doesn't impose on the audience's time. Time is precious—when an idea is tight, it doesn't require a long sequence to tell the story. Here it sets the table, then gets out of the way. 3. The music is iconic. In my opinion, a great Title lives and dies by the score. This particular theme is reflective of the tone and era of the show, sets the mood and doesn't ever get on your nerves. 4. It's graphic with a smart color language. The reason why graphic languages are so useful in Title Sequences is because they strip away noise to get to a core idea. I really like how they're not making any arbitrary color choices—It's B/W, with most of the color coming from the crumbling Ads. That's right, it's the Mad Men Title Sequence. Storytelling at it's best. Let me know of your favorite Titles in the comments. Thanks! #motiongraphics, #titles #titlesequences, #mograph #typography
