In recognition of #HBCUWeek, we are excited to introduce Malik Rivers, a product engineer with Vulcan, a division of ITW’s Food Equipment Group. Malik joined ITW as an intern while earning his degree in mechanical engineering from North Carolina A&T State University before starting full-time in May 2023. He credits his time at A&T with developing a solid foundation for his engineering career, which made the transition to the workforce smoother than he expected. Now, Malik finds himself regularly running design updates and diagnosing manufacturing issues on the production floor. Malik has immersed himself in ITW’s culture as an active member of our African American Network (AAN) and by embracing an entrepreneurial spirit. “At ITW, I have been empowered to explore my own path to ensure the best outcome,” says Malik. “With ITW's support, I've been able to pursue my passions of Design and Finite Element Analysis with the hopes of eventually acquiring a certification in SolidWorks.” #ProudToBeITW #NCAT #AggiePride

Sourcing Specialist at Buehler An ITW Company

What an amazing past few days! After months of planning, preparation, and teamwork, we’ve just wrapped up a truly unforgettable Conference for 150 members of the Young Professionals Network at ITW from across the nation! 👏   Between our thought-provoking keynote session with Chris O'Herlihy, interactive workshops that dove deeply into the ITW Toolbox, and invaluable networking opportunities, every moment was designed to empower and connect the next generation of leaders across all segments and divisions. It was inspiring to see the energy, innovation, and passion that filled the room.   A huge thank you to our incredible speakers (Vince Cipresso, Jeff Schroeder, Gary Hovan, Joseph Schneider), sponsors (Sharon Szafranski, Claire Jadin, Ellen Steele Kapoor & Mr. Dexter L. Overall M.Ed), and committee volunteers who made this Conference possible. Your support and enthusiasm played a pivotal role in its success. I am also so thankful for the YPN Global Team who I had a pleasure to work alongside throughout the planning process. I could not have asked for a better group of leaders, problem-solvers and friends! (Morgan McDevitt, Bryan Moore, Lisa Wassenberg, Jessica Cadena)   And to all the participants—your engagement and eagerness to learn and connect were the highlights of this Conference. This remains one of my favorite annual events, and I am so proud to work for a company that invests in their early-in-career talent in such an impactful way. 🙌   #ProudToBeITW

Mechanical Engineering and Psychology at Northwestern | New Product Development Intern at ITW Medical

And that wraps up my internship with ITW Medical! 🎉 What an incredible summer this has been. Here are some key takeaways from my experience in the MedTech industry: 💡 Always Ask "Why?": Don’t just follow instructions – understand the reasoning behind every task and decision. Knowing the purpose not only improves the quality of your work but also maximises your learning. 🔬 Master Your Products: Develop an in-depth understanding of your products, including their science, technical details, and functionality. This is crucial for making informed decisions and communicating effectively. 🗣️ Tailor Your Communication: Understand your audience. Know when to focus on the bigger picture and when to delve into specifics to ensure your message is clear and impactful. 🛠️ Design for Manufacturability: A great design is only valuable if it can be produced and distributed to those who need it. 📐 Precision in CAD: Be meticulous with CAD models and drawings. In the MedTech industry, even minor errors can have serious consequences. ✅ Never Compromise on Quality: Quality must never be sacrificed for cost, speed, or convenience. Patient safety is always the top priority. Thank you for all the support this past summer, I am so proud to have been a part of this team. Special thanks to Vaishnavi Tallapally, Mani Balasubramanian and Monju Chowdhury for being outstanding mentors!
