Yesterday, HyAxiom celebrated International Women in Engineering Day by gathering with colleagues from across the company to honor outstanding achievements as well as learn about the need for parity in the Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Industry. Sridhar K., HyAxiom’s Chief Technology Officer, kicked off the luncheon by recognizing our very own women engineers and their accomplishments. Whitney Kline, Ph.D. Deepthi Benerji Teegala Catherine Pratt Holly Schipper Maegan Lipinski Castle Ioana Stanescu In addition, we were delighted to have Katrina Fritz as our guest speaker who talked with us about Women’s Roles in Deep Decarbonization. We learned about Katrina’s career path and best practices for getting a seat at the table, or at least improve your chances. She provided us with lessons learned as well as answered questions from the audience.   Let's continue to work to bridge the gap and encourage more women and girls to get interested in STEM and Engineering. On June 3, 2024, the Department of Treasury and Internal Revenue Service published the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) for Section 48E Clean Electricity Investment Credit on the Federal Register. For clean energy generation technologies, the key change to these new tech-neutral provisions is that only facilities with zero greenhouse gas emission will quality for these credits. The largest concern of the NPRM is that the document defines fuel cells as a combustion and gasification facility. The reasoning provided is that a combustion or gasification facility include: “facilities that produce electricity through combustion or use an input energy source to produce electricity, which energy source was produced through a fundamental transformation, or multiple transformations, of one energy source into another using combustion or gasification.” Under this ruling, even hydrogen fuel cells would not qualify for this credit unless the hydrogen itself has zero emissions associated with it. We are greatly concerned by the language in this NPRM and are raising awareness with our peers about these proposed changes.
