About us

Hurtigruten is one of the world’s great journeys, sailing and caring for the Norwegian coast since 1893. We are proud to be a national icon for generations of Norwegians and to have a special place in the hearts of our guests from around the world. Our Original voyages connect 34 coastal communities. It is the classic way to travel the Norwegian coast as a local and has rightly become known as ‘The World’s Most Beautiful Voyage’. To mark our 130-year anniversary, we launched an exclusive range of Signature cruises. These premium sailings showcase our favourite places of Norway’s coast with several hours spent in each port. Along with HX and Hurtigruten Svalbard, we are part of Hurtigruten Group, the global leader in sustainable, inspirational adventure travel, employing more than 2,400 staff and crew from over 50 nationalities.

Traveling to our coastal destinations offers a life-changing experience for our guests, inspiring them to give back to the communities they visit. This generous spirit shows in their support for the Hurtigruten Foundation. Record donations have helped us to distribute more grants than ever before, totalling over €370,000 in the most recent grant cycle. Among the recipients are: 🚢 The Norwegian Hurtigruten Museum, receiving funds for rehabilitating the crew quarters on decks A and B of the museum ship MS Finnmarken, honouring those who have served along the Norwegian coast ever since 1893. 🐟 Another beneficiary is the fishing village of Kamøyvær near the North Cape. With 62 residents welcoming 20,000 to 30,000 tourists annually, the foundation is supporting the Kamøyvær Village Association with a 100,000 NOK grant for local maintenance and improvements. 📷 Image 1: Bjorn Eide 📷 Image 2 & 3: Norsk Hurtigrutemuseum

Pride ahoy 🚢 This month, the Pride flag adorns all our ships in the Hurtigruten fleet. Along with celebrations both on sea and in our offices on land, we’ve highlighted Pride in many ways this June for our guests, crew and employees. The flags, however, are the most visible initiative to our guests onboard and Norwegians along the coast that everybody should have the freedom to be themselves. Happy Pride!

This week, our Chief Operating Officer, Gerry Larsson-Fedde, accepted the award for Best Concept Ship Design at the prestigious Electric & Hybrid Marine Awards in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, for Hurtigruten’s SeaZero initiative. "It is a great honour for us to receive this award as recognition for all the hard work our partners and employees have put into this project so far," said Gerry. Electric & Hybrid Marine Technology International magazine coordinated the awards, officiated by a panel of international journalists, consultants, and industry experts. Announced in 2021, this project is currently in its research and development phase. We’re working together with the Norwegian research institute SINTEF and several other partners in the Norwegian maritime industry, including Vard and Brunvoll. The ship’s design concept features state-of-the-art solutions like contra-rotating propellers, air lubrication to reduce water resistance, retractable sails and large batteries. The goal is to build a ship that can sail without emissions during normal operation "While some of the technology we will use is mature, a lot of testing, development, and research is still needed to reach our goal. This award gives us extra motivation to continue this work," shares Gerry. Image Credit: VARD Design

June is Pride month across the world, but at Hurtigruten, we want to ensure that both our LGBTQ employees and guests feel at home, respected, and included any day and month of the year. As a true Norwegian legacy company, we are proud to possess the values that have made Scandinavia the most LGBTQ friendly region in the world. These values are in our DNA, both on the sea and on land, and are a natural part of our business and mindset.   As part of Pride month, our ships along the Norwegian coast will mark this by raising the pride flag, along with increased employee engagement on both ships and offices, with Pride events.   But year-round, our engaging LGBTQ Employee Resource Group (ERG) create a space for sharing, learning and connecting, and foster a sense of belonging for everyone, both our LGBTQ colleagues and allies. In Hurtigruten, our ERG plays a key role in supporting the company's ambitions to become more diverse and inclusive, as well as to ensure Hurtigruten represents its LGBTQ employees when doing business. This includes ensuring no colleague of ours is suffering from any form of homophobia, transphobia, or any other bullying or discrimination. Based on employee research on DEI, our leaders are trained to ensure we are even more inclusive and aware of our diverse talents across the company, as our goal is simply to be the most inclusive travel company in the world. At Hurtigruten, we believe that together we can make our voices heard and shape change.     We have a lot more to achieve, and we are committed to doing even better and doing more. For now, Happy Pride!   Photos: From today’s Pride Awareness event in our Oslo office streamed across all our organisation.

The story of Norway through Dylan McBurney’s lens 📷 Last year, Dylan joined us on The Svalbard Line to document sailing to the northernmost settlement in the world. He’s just been awarded the National Geographic Traveller UK Photography Competition winner for the Portfolio category, showcasing his experience aboard our Signature voyage 👏🏼 Dylan tells us “Norway has always been a location where I wanted to go and shoot. It has everything from natural beauty to drastic landscapes. When I had the opportunity to travel along the whole coast of Norway and onto Svalbard with Hurtigruten, I was ecstatic with what I would be able to capture. This portfolio encompasses a range of images from landscape, to aerial, and even wildlife photography. I believe these images portray the fascinating details the arctic landscape has to offer.” #Hurtigruten #TheSvalbardLine #Norway #Svalbard

This year’s World Earth Day mission is to reduce the use and production of plastics 🌎  💡 Hurtigruten fact: The Coastal Express became the first cruise line to remove single-use plastics back in 2018. Plastic items like straws, cups, pens, keychains and bags were replaced with biodegradable or long-lasting alternatives. We’ve also moved away from single-use butter packets 🧈 What swap are you making this year to reduce plastic use? Let us know in the comments 👇🏼 https://ow.ly/HMBz50RkYJv #EarthDay #Hurtigruten
