When disaster strikes, great people are set to respond. With disasters increasing in frequency and severity, efforts to sustain those great people has never been more important. Last week I was back in Texas, working with the dedicated team at National Emergency Management and Response. What an inspiring team. Here are just a few snippets from the team themselves: 💬"This was seriously the best training I've ever been to! Thank you!" 💬"I’ve been through quite a few resiliency trainings, and this is the first one that actually presented solutions. Great job!" 💬"I usually don’t love group activities, but the activities were great and oriented toward building more empathy within the team and allowing each of us to understand that others have their struggles too." 💬"Great workshop. Opened up a lot of conversations we needed to have. And topics I didn’t think about, but were important." I never take for granted the honor it is to be entrusted with a team so a huge thank you to Lisa Amaya, Kayla Aragon MNM, CNP and Ashley Pemelton for your leadership and trust. #EmergencyResponse #SustainingTheResponders #WellbeingUnderPressure #SetToPerform #FutureReadyLeadership

Do you have a team that must pull together to achieve something important, despite working remotely and being geographically spread? You're not alone. Check out how this phenomenal team tackled the challenge: ✴ Important mission: The work of the FIND is vital to combatting neglected tropical diseases which disproportionately impact low-income communities. 🌍 The challenge of remote work: Being a remote team has made it hard to build the personal connections that make collaboration easier. ⌚ A busy leader with a lot on her plate looking for an effective solution 💡 The solution: Hummingly's Optimizing Team Cohesion and Wellbeing 'workshop in a box'. Check out the link below for the whole story, but here's a sneak peek: For a busy leader like Helen, the ‘workshop in a box’ was a lifesaver. “It was particularly useful because our plates are full and we didn't really have any time or anyone to sit down and organize a workshop for us. So it was nice that it came nicely packaged for us. We were able to just participate without anyone feeling like they are the facilitator.” Helen was especially pleased with the sense of camaraderie and willingness to support each other that emerged from the workshop. "It was just amazing that before we were even leaving, people stepped up and offered to contribute more to the team.”  Curious about the 'workshop in a box'? https://lnkd.in/gnjYy3j7 Or drop us a note... https://lnkd.in/gzFTHa8v #TeamCohesion #WorkshopInABox #RemoteWorking #TeamEffectiveness

    All Right?

This is the third (and last) of three posts I've written recently on public messaging campaigns for those with an interest. I spoke recently on a panel at the Natural Hazards Center's Natural Hazards Workshop, alongside a fantastic crew - Kate Brady, Mary Anne Clive, and Claire Leppold - on public messaging efforts that flopped and those that flew. One that flew.... The All Right? campaign was designed to support communities living through the aftermath of the Christchurch earthquakes - normalizing the responses we were experiencing (It's all right to feel over it right now. It's all right to proud of how you've coped....) and encouraging actions to support wellbeing and to support each other. This campaign is among some of the work I am most proud of. If you're curious about the All Right? campaign: 👉The All Right? campaign is still live and well and having a continued positive impact more than a decade later. You can check out the campaign as it is now here, https://lnkd.in/gKKbC3en 👉In the images you'll see a case study I included in a guidance document I wrote a while back for International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC for creating public messaging campaigns 👉The full guidance document can be found here with a whole range of case studies, including the Dumb Ways to Die campaign featured in an earlier post: https://lnkd.in/gy-V8ZzB 👉Some guidance on the creation of a campaign like this can be found here: hewakaora.nz ✋Or reach out - I'm always happy to share some of the insights from the campaign creation, or connect you with those who have been involved with the campaign over the last decade. The potential for positive impact through messaging campaigns is incredibly powerful. #PublicMessaging #Campaigns #DisasterRecovery

Keeping communities and all those who support on the ground in Maui in our thoughts and hearts.

Last week was hard and heavy week for Maui marking one year since the fires. I had the honor of being invited back 'on-island' by Native Hawaiian Philanthropy. It was a packed week but an incredibly moving and inspiring one. ❤️ Serving with the volunteer mental health team (Team Aloha) at two community commemoration events. To me this was important knowing how hard it is for local service providers who have their own fire journey and impacts to mark the day themselves. 💛 Exploring indigenous land-based healing approaches 💙 Witnessing the power of Native Hawaiian cultural practices to support recovery 💜Seeing the work and incredible efforts of dedicated locals on the ground to support their communities ❤️Witnessing yet again the innate power of humans to hold hope for the future and move towards healing, despite how hard it may be right now. Mahalo Kuʻuleinani Maunupau, Nicole Hokoana, Val Kalei Kanuha, Alice Ryan, Kuʻuleimakamae Shafee and so many more...

In the heart of Chicago, Ann & Robert Lurie Children's Hospital stands as a beacon of hope for families facing medical challenges. Any parent who has spent time in hospital with a child will know just how vital the staff are. These dedicated health workers grapple with the strain of high-pressure environments and the toll of demanding workloads. Hummingly has been proud to support the incredible team at Lurie Children's Hospital. The wellbeing program is led by the talented Deirdre Guthrie, PhD who had this to say: "I was looking for someone who had the 'street cred' because frontline folks and our high-pressure workplaces really are different. These environments draw people who care deeply and are very gritty, but therein lies their vulnerabilities. Jolie's background and knowledge of performance under pressure was a perfect fit. We are a complex, multi-faceted organization and we needed somebody who understood that environment."
