The Eastern Market Partnership, an HWF grantee, has launched its most ambitious fundraising campaign yet—the $15M Authentic Eastern Market Campaign. This multi-year initiative will strengthen Detroit’s food economy, expand the market’s footprint, and ensure its long-term success. The Hudson-Webber Foundation congratulates its President and CEO Donald Rencher on being named a Crain's Detroit Business Notable Black Business Leader for 2024. Individuals were nominated by peers, colleagues, friends, and family, and selected by a team of Crain’s Detroit Business editors based on their career accomplishments, track records of success, and overall impact. While serving as the Group Executive of Housing, Planning, and Development for the City of Detroit, Rencher spearheaded the preservation of 10,000 affordable housing units and the creation of 2,000 new ones. He also led a fundraising effort that secured more than $56 million for the Detroit Housing for the Future Fund and successfully lobbied for $150 million in affordable housing funding from the State of Michigan. The City of Detroit has launched a second round of its Down Payment Assistance Program, offering up to $25,000 for low-to-moderate-income residents who pay as much in rent as they would on a mortgage. The Detroit Sound Conservancy (DSC), a proud grantee of the Hudson-Webber Foundation (HWF), has secured $2.5 million in new funding from various sources. This funding is crucial for the renovation of the historic Blue Bird Inn on Detroit's west side and the development of nearby park and gathering spaces. Specifically, HWF's $100,000 investment will support the acquisition, planning, and development of properties adjacent to the Blue Bird Inn, creating vibrant community spaces for recreation and leisure. The DSC, dedicated to preserving Detroit's rich musical history, acquired The Blue Bird Inn in 2018. This iconic venue was a cornerstone for local jazz and visiting artists during the bebop era. The redevelopment will transform it into a dynamic community center and music venue.
