Kudos to Kaela Reilly, who recently completed 100 hours of volunteer service with The Humane Society of the United States' Law Enforcement Training Center! Kaela plays a vital role on our team, researching animal cruelty investigation cases and gathering law enforcement contacts for our database. Her work has led to relationships with law enforcement leaders, which have played a significant role in advancing critical legislative priorities. 👏 In her free time, Kaela enjoys visiting farm sanctuaries all over the country and spending time with her cats. We’re immensely grateful for Kaela's commitment to the law enforcement outreach and engagement team's mission and her dedication to protecting all animals. 💙 Learn more about our Law Enforcement Training Center at https://bit.ly/3rSn62u.

Kudos to Cherokee County Sheriff Derek Scott, who recently received a Humane Law Enforcement Award presented by The Humane Society of the United States' Iowa state director Preston Moore. 👏 In March, when Sheriff Scott came across a dog who’d been shot and left in a ditch, he loaded the dog in his squad car and drove him to an emergency clinic. Thanks to the dedicated vet team and Noah’s Hope Animal Rescue, the dog (dubbed Derek in honor of his savior) recovered from a leg amputation. He was later adopted by Sheriff Scott and his family, who renamed him Baxter to avoid the confusion of having two Dereks in the family. 😄 To help more animals in his community, Sheriff Scott recently hosted a class on animal cruelty and fighting investigations, presented by the HSUS Law Enforcement Training Center.
