About us
HRSA programs provide health care to people who are geographically isolated, economically, or medically vulnerable. This includes people living with HIV/AIDS, pregnant women, mothers, and their families, and those otherwise unable to access high quality health care. HRSA also supports access to health care in rural areas, the training of health professionals, the distribution of providers to areas where they are needed most, and improvements in health care delivery. In addition, HRSA oversees organ, bone marrow, and cord blood donation. It compensates individuals harmed by vaccination, and maintains databases that flag providers with a record of health care malpractice, waste, fraud, and abuse for federal, state, and local use. Nearly 90% of HRSA’s budget is awarded through grants and cooperative agreements to approximately 3,000 awardees, including community-based organizations, colleges and universities, hospitals, state, local, and tribal governments, and private entities.

Community organizations, treatment providers, EMS, primary care providers, prevention leaders, and recovery support experts working together to prevent and respond to overdose - it’s wonderful to see. We are excited that you will be able to continue to grow in Wilson County and expand to four additional rural North Carolina counties through our new initiative. Last week, we also announced new funding to Carolina Family Health Centers, Inc. to expand their work to integrate #mentalhealth and #substanceusedisorder treatment in their #primarycare services, including increasing access to medications to treat #opioid use disorder. Rural communities across the country are doing exciting work with this funding focusing on everything from employment opportunities for individuals in recovery to launching new treatment access points to deploying community outreach workers to engage people in treatment. Our new #ruralhealth funding also focuses on the vital work of strengthening #maternalhealth care in #rural communities in the South and helping rural hospitals to stay open.
