Jamal Cyrus and Charisse Pearlina Weston’s monumental artwork at the African American Library at the Gregory School pays tribute to the life and legacy of Barbara Jordan. This evocative piece transforms the library’s lawn into a reflective space, celebrating Jordan’s impact on public service and justice through geometric motifs and archival materials. HAA, in collaboration with the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, oversaw the artist selection, design, and installation, ensuring this piece reflects the essence of Barbara Jordan’s remarkable legacy. The Meditative Space is a part of the City of Houston’s Civic Art Collection. --- La obra monumental de Jamal Cyrus y Charisse Pearlina Weston en la Biblioteca Afroamericana en la Escuela Gregory rinde homenaje a la vida y legado de Barbara Jordan. David Maldonado’s stunning mural at the Denver Harbor Multi-Service Center brings vibrancy and cultural richness to the heart of the community. Spanning the exterior walls and entrance canopy, Maldonado’s artwork reflects themes of regeneration, growth, and joy, featuring hands nurturing a garden and a lively hummingbird. The mural celebrates the Denver Harbor community’s spirit and the center's role in local life.
