An award over FIVE and a HALF YEARS IN THE MAKING! Our Volga, SD manufacturing plant (ME-PRO®, Protéger™) recently surpassed 2013 days of NO lost time due to injury or accident. The result? Our second year of award with the South Dakota Safety Council - the state chapter of the National Safety Council. Dustin Gibbons Production Manager, John Tirrel, EHS Manager, and Dennis Harstad, VP of Operations represented the whole Houdek manufacturing team at the award ceremony. The official verbiage is: THE GOVERNOR’S WORKPLACE SAFETY AWARDS PROGRAM RECOGNIZES SOUTH DAKOTA EMPLOYERS FOR THEIR ACHIEVEMENTS IN CONTROLLING INJURIES AND ILLNESSES IN THE WORKPLACE. Practically, we were awarded based on our safety performance in incident rates, and in comparison to others in our same industry classification in both the state and nationally. The following is a thank-you post from IQI Trusted Petfood Ingredients — to help with their recent sales team growth, we had product training at their #Amersfoort headquarters featuring Protéger ♥️ - our #plantbased protein ingredient for specialized pet diets. Alex Tsappis led the moment, working with Arjan Van Waes, Yvette Gerritsen, Ralf Stürznickel, Geert van der Velden, Rick Houtepen... and a host of others eager to know more of how we're leveraging #fermentation to improve diets in aquaculture and pet food. Plus, we were able to showcase how our R&D team was able to use Protéger and formulate, extrude, and bag a new high-protein dog treat (and they passed the test of iQi's office 🐕 🦮 🐩 !). To us, this kind of meeting is critical. Can you count the ❤️s ?! This is a fun video of an R&D test-run of dog treats coming out of the dryer at our "Back40" facility. The dog treats feature our extraordinary protein ingredient, Protéger. Our team of Ashton Fey, Brandon White, Alex Tsappis and Chris Kauk did it all - from formulation to extrusion to drying. The question has come up - since our main business is fermenting plant meals to use as essential ingredients in #aquaculture and #petfood diets, why devote so much time and energy to something that represents far more than what our customers are using our products for in the first place? Simply put, "It's in our nature!" By doing the extra work to experience how our products end up in diets, we believe we will provide better for our customers now and innovate better for the future. Doncha' ♥️ it when mom/dad works in a bakery?! Miley sure does! The pictures were taken last week during a test-feed run at our "Back40" R&D facility. Ashton Fey and Alex Tsappis worked alongside Miley's #dogdad, Chris Kauk to extrude a small-batch of a premium dog treat, nourished with our own #plantbased fermented protein for pet diets, ♥️ Protéger™. The story is a cool one that we'll be sharing later. But for now, know that the whole process — from💡to 📦 —  was managed by Houdek. R&D, formulation, extrusion, market research, packaging... and not to compete with our customers but to demonstrate that when our #animalfeed #aquafeed customers have a particular challenge/opportunity, the team gets to work!
