Customer acquisition costs increased by $208 in the last year. 🫣 As a result, here are 3 actionable sales & marketing strategies that home-based care providers are racing to implement this year, according to our 2024 Benchmarking Report: 💡 Sales & Marketing Tip #1: Prioritize Customer Acquisition & Referrals Customer acquisition costs are the highest they’ve been in five years—highlighting the urgency for you to prioritize strengthening your relationship with new referral sources. 💡 Sales & Marketing Tip #2: Track & Respond to Inquiries & Assessments Providers who are tracking EVERY inquiry about their services see more ROI than those who only track some. But only 1 in 4 providers can prove their quality-of-care outcomes with data. 💡 Sales & Marketing Tip #3: Effectively Market Openings & Accolades to Improve Staffing Median care staff turnover spiked by 14% in the last two years for home-based care and increased by 8.3% in home health and hospice. Despite turnover being at an all-time high, home-based care providers are more concerned with recruiting staff, while home health and hospice are worried about attracting enough referrals. Hireology, the top-rated applicant tracking system (ATS) built for home care and facilities-based care organizations, announced a new integration partnership with Activated Insights (formerly Home Care Pulse), the leading provider of training, recruitment, retention, experience management and recognition tools to improve and grow long-term and post-acute care organizations. Together, the two solutions empower long-term and post-acute care organizations to quickly attract top-tier Caregivers, RN and CNA talent and ensure long-term retention. This partnership comes at a time when the healthcare talent shortage is more alarming than ever before. Experts predict that about 200,000 new nurses will be needed by 2031. On top of that, 18% of new nurses leave their jobs within the first year — leaving organizations with hiring and training costs that range from $28,400 to $51,700 per nurse. “Given the disparity between talent supply and demand along with high turnover rates, remaining fully staffed becomes a nearly impossible task without effective technology and processes,” said Adam Robinson, CEO of Hireology. “That’s why we’re so thrilled to partner with Activated Insights. Together our two platforms provide a true end-to-end solution for remaining competitive in an increasingly challenging healthcare hiring market.” Read how the two technology providers aim to help home-based care and facilities-based care organizations below.

This year's Activated Insights (formerly HCP) Benchmarking Report has over 225 pages of home-based care data, expert insights, best practices, strategies, and more. What are the top findings from this 15th Annual Edition? Here's the sparknotes version of the 2024 Activated Insights Benchmarking Report to help you get you started on turning industry benchmarking data into data-driven business decisions: 📊 Finding #1 – Sales & Marketing: Home-based care providers are putting their energy towards strengthening relationships with referral sources. While customer acquisition costs are the highest they’ve been in five years (rising by $208 in the last year to a total of $800 per customer), those who tracked every inquiry made about their services saw almost a million dollar increase in revenue compared to those who only tracked some or most inquiries. 📊 Finding #2 – Recruitment & Retention: Over the last two years, the home-based care turnover rate has increased by over 12% to reach a total of 79.2%. This may be because although Indeed continues to be the most popular recruitment source, it produces the highest turnover rate of 88%, ultimately producing a short-lived “quick win” for recruitment numbers but a devastating retention rate. 📊 Finding #3 –Training: Although professional home-based care in-person training initially costs the highest in employee acquisition expenses, it produces the most revenue per care employee at $17,071. But only 39.3% of providers have an established career path which may be why only 43.8% of home-based care staff and 55% of home health and hospice staff feel completely prepared to take care of new clients. 📊 Finding #4 – Finance: Revenue from hourly care is also the lowest it’s been in the last three years, dropping by almost 10% in the last year. Which may be why providers are also diversifying their top five payer sources: private pay, long-term insurance, Veteran Administration programs, Medicaid Waiver program, and direct Medicaid billing. 📊 Finding #5 – Operations: Over half of all business comes from family members requesting care for their loved ones, but only 26.7% of providers completely met the family’s care goals. This may be why 50% of customers found themselves stopping services to look for another provider who could offer them a higher level of care. 📊 Finding #6 – Customer & Employee Experience: Home-based care providers that gathered and acted on feedback recruited 90% more employees. Which may be why customers are more satisfied than they have been in the last three years, and overall employee satisfaction is the highest it’s been in five years. Home-based care organizations saw a 10.5% customer increase on average last year, surpassing the mere 4.4% growth seen in 2022. 👉 Customer growth rate hasn’t been this high in almost a decade. 🤯 What are providers doing differently? To create the 2024 Activated Insights Benchmarking Report, we surveyed over 1,100 home-based care providers and find out exactly what is and isn’t working in their business operations: 📈 Trend #1: Providers with the highest customer retention are prioritizing the satisfaction of their customers' loved ones. The average customer length of service increased by two months while the median customer lifetime value rose by $1,465 in the last year, the highest it’s been in four years. As 57% of customers come from family-requested care, it’s no wonder why providers who involve families in their customer’s care plans are seeing the highest customer satisfaction and retention rates. 📉 Trend #2: Only 1 in 4 home-based care providers have the data to prove their quality care outcomes. While the average hospital admission rate for home-based care in 2023 was 4%, only 24.1% of home-based care providers tracked their hospital admission rates last year. That means, 3/4 of providers are not capitalizing on proving this level of quality care. Not to mention, communicating the value of long-term and post-acute care industry as a service. 📈 Trend #3: Despite a record-breaking staff turnover rate, providers with a strong reputation are turning away less cases due to staff shortage. Despite the industry’s average care staff turnover rate reaching nearly 80%, there was a 16% decrease in those who had to turn down cases due to the staffing shortage compared to 2022. Which means, providers are getting creative in keeping their customers around. As almost 1/3 of total revenue is generated from the opinions of your customers and employees, managing your reputation has never been more important. Learn how to apply each one of these trends by reading our full guest article for Rosemark here: https://hubs.li/Q02Gj-bp0
