Second stop: Silicon Valley! 🌁 Last week, the US Expansion Expedition organized by ScaleNL and Techleap landed in San Francisco. After exploring the ecosystem of Salt Lake City, the founders of 14 Dutch topnotch scale-ups connected to the innovation and creativity of the Bay Area. 💡During the expedition, the crew had the chance to meet local AI experts like Douwe Kiela, founder of Contextual AI, and Vivienne Ming, professional mad scientist and co-founder of Socos Labs. They also met with leading investors like Rene Bonvanie (Battery Ventures), Jack Fuchs (Blackhorn Ventures), Keshia Theobald-van Gent (BDev Ventures), and Marvin Liao (Diaspora Ventures) who shared their expertise. ✅'When to Jump', led by Mike Lewis and Ryan Patel brought a lively discussing, while Gerald Brady and Eli Oftedal shared their perspectives on the 'State of the Markets'. 🙏 Huge thanks to Karen & Sid Sijbrandij of GitLab for hosting the group, and to our partners ScaleNL and Techleap for organizing these invaluable expeditions. First stop: Salt Lake City! 🚀 The US Expansion Expedition is visiting the West Coast this week. The visit, organized by Techleap and ScaleNL, connects 14 successful Dutch tech scaleups with US tech leaders, founders, and investors.    🦄 Salt Lake City - a rising hub for entrepreneurship - offered the founders an opportunity to immerse themselves in this growing tech ecosystem. Economic growth over the last decade has led to an increased flow of capital into Utah, resulting in a strong VC presence. The tech ecosystem at large revolves around deep relationships and a collaborative spirit, resembling a beehive; a symbol of the State of Utah. An abundance of ski opportunities gives the city it’s tech nickname: Silicon Slopes ⛷️   🔥 The crew met with Eric Rea and Dennis Steele, co-founders of Podium, one of Utah’s unicorns, to gather insights into their founder journey. At Album VC the founders learned more about the investment climate of Utah, followed by a discussion led by Sid K. about growth opportunities in the US. 📱 The trip included a touchpoint between Special Envoy H.R.H. Prince Constantijn Van Oranje-Nassau and Lieutenant Governor Deidre M. Henderson to discuss bilateral opportunities, as well as meetings with World Trade Center Utah (WTC Utah), Economic Development Corporation of Utah (EDCUtah), Cotopaxi, PillPack, Pattern®, and Pelion Venture Partners, including a panel with Sarika Garg, CEO of Cacheflow. ✅ Thank you to all our partners in Utah, including Delta Air Lines and Meindert Kooistra. Women entrepreneurs and professionals in Silicon Valley face unique challenges, often overlooked by the male-dominated tech industry. Holland in the Valley brought together a group of ambitious and bold women from both NL and the US to exchange experiences. We talked about the objectives of a women’s community and what this could look like for this group, and beyond. This is just the start of a longterm community to inspire, learn, and support each other here locally, but also aspiring Dutch women entrepreneurs and leaders coming to the West Coast.
