What's different about the Hogan coaching protocol? The process prioritizes context gathering in two different steps, according to Patrick Lagutaris, president at PCL Leadership and member of the Hogan Coaching Network. First, the context call involves the coaching client's manager and HR from the beginning of the process. Lagutaris explained that this allows the organization, coach, and client to be aligned on what goals, skills, and behaviors need to be developed. Second, the connection call between the coach and client greatly enhances the coach's ability to target the coaching experience to the client's personality and desired outcomes. Lagutaris shared an example of how the connection call helped him coach more effectively. "One client had an acknowledged confidence issue in their leadership," he said. They told a story about taking a courageous stand in their youth. "Later in the process, I reminded the leader that the courage they once showed was still alive and well.
