The day is finally here and we couldn't be more excited. Seattle's Overlook Walk officially opens to the public at 4:30pm. We can't even wait a couple more hours for everyone to see what we’ve been working on these past few years, so here's a quick sneak peek of what you'll soon be able to see for yourselves. This new public, accessible pathway connects Seattle’s beloved waterfront to Pike Place Market and Seattle’s urban core. It offers a stunning elevated panoramic view of Elliott Bay, the Olympics, and Mount Rainier. It also provides seating areas, terraced landscaping with native plants, slides, and other play elements for the whole family to enjoy. Overlook Walk is not only a functional pathway to connect Seattle's most popular attractions, it’s also an exquisite work of art and tribute to the Pacific Northwest. All this is thanks to the brilliant design of The Miller Hull Partnership, LLP. We're pretty sure you’re going to love it, but we'd love to know what you think. Please comment below if/when you see it for yourself. #hoffmanbuilds City of Seattle FRIENDS OF THE SEATTLE WATERFRONT Pike Place Market Foundation Visit Seattle Magnusson Klemencic Associates

  • Semiconductor chips, or microchips, are a crucial component in today’s modern day society. Most of us are aware that chips are necessary in our smart phones and computers, but do you know they're also necessary to operate most of our cars, coffee makers, vacuum cleaners, and fitness trackers? Chips are used to retrieve signals, store data, and give us necessary, sometimes lifesaving, information every single day. Which is why semiconductor factories, also referred to as “Fabs”, are so important. Since 1995 Hoffman Construction has built over 20 semiconductor factories around the U.S. and the Middle East. We’ve learned a lot along the way, and we’ve taken lessons learned to improve our processes, increase our efficiency, and complete the construction of fabs with an unprecedented safety record. Being in business for over 100 years means that we’ve had to change and grow over the years, and we are proud to be on the cutting edge of the semiconductor business and support an industry that touches the lives of everyone in the world. #hoffmanbuilds

  • We are thrilled to see the newly remodeled Portland International Airport featured on this month's cover of Architectural Record. We were honored to work in partnership with Skanska to make the gorgeous and innovative architectural design of ZGF Architects become a reality. We definitely encourage everyone to check out Architectural Record's October issue to learn more about innovative architecture around the country, including the 9-acre mass timber, locally sourced roof that covers the main Portland International Airport terminal. #hoffmanbuilds #pdxnext

RECORD’s October issue, which coincides with our annual Innovation Conference, features a little bit of everything, including four K-12 school projects—public and private, large and small—that make the grade in Manhattan, central Italy, and the suburbs of Dallas and Nashville. Outside of the classroom, we visit transformative expansion projects at Nebraska’s premier art museum, the Seattle Aquarium, and Portland International Airport (pictured), where locally sourced mass timber plays a starring role. A markedly diverse assortment of other projects showcased in this issue, including the House of the Month, can be found in Toronto, Denver, Queens, San Diego, and Montana. Related to the issue’s K-12 section, the October CEU discusses trauma-informed design. • Over the last 102 years, Hoffman Construction has been fortunate to build a wide array of facilities - from advanced manufacturing plants, airports, sports and recreation venues, laboratories, and much more. We are particularly proud of the many healthcare facilities that we’ve built over the years. Creating facilities where people feel safe and comfortable receiving and providing care is incredibly important, and we take the task very seriously. Today we want to highlight a healthcare project we completed just over a decade ago in Coos Bay, Oregon: the Bay Area Hospital Expansion project. We built a 109,000 square foot addition to the existing hospital that included a new 12-bed Intensive Care Unit, an outpatient Cardiopulmonary Rehab Clinic, new Oncology Infusion Clinic, and a lobby and admitting space. We also built a shelled floor for a future 30-bed Acute Care Unit. To ensure we met staff needs we built full-scale mockups so users could get a sense of what patient rooms would be like and we could make adjustments prior to construction to save time and money. We also utilized several prefabricated components to keep the project on schedule. #hoffmanbuilds You can read more about this project online at: https://lnkd.in/gfErzRjv

  • We want to extend our heartfelt congratulations to NBBJ Design for winning an AIA Washington Council Civic Design Honor Award for designing the Colman Dock. Your design excellence is a vibrant and valuable asset to the Seattle waterfront - and this recognition is very well deserved. Getting to build the Colman Dock, one of the busiest ferry terminals in the world, was a privilege. It was a true honor to help make your design become a reality. It's projects like these that make us proud to be builders. #hoffmanbuilds

We’re proud to announce that Seattle’s ferry terminal, Colman Dock, wins an AIA Washington Council Civic Design Honor Award, the Council’s highest recognition! The award celebrates design excellence in publicly funded projects, reflecting the highest standards of sustainability, innovation and building performance.     A “beacon” of the community, the design of Colman Dock is based on a lantern, serving as a literal link between communities. The project’s entry building, retail and public spaces, and elevated walkway reimagine the flagship transportation hub as an engaging pedestrian experience. The terminal building features passive heating and cooling features that minimize energy use, including a large roof for shading, operable windows, and skylights. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gP5gaxUv and here https://lnkd.in/gzgzva5q #aia #civic #award #honoraward #ferry #seattle #nbbjdesign

  • "Now open to the public, PDX’s main terminal heralds a new era of civic-scale mass-timber construction. The cool and calming scene inside couldn’t be further from the frenetic chaos many travelers must endure elsewhere—instead, it invites a certain slowness," Leopoldo Villardi. In these often crazed and hurried times, we'll take this feedback anytime, right? ZGF Architects Skanska #hoffmanbuilds #hoffmanskanskajv

“It seems like everyone is just lost in a dreamworld,” laments an outsider on the sketch comedy Portlandia. “For one thing, your airport is 20 minutes to and from. That’s not how cities are!” The irony of the bit is that, indeed, Portland’s international airport is uncommonly easy to access, via car and public transit. The prime location is one of the reasons why those notably quirky Portlanders adore it. Outposts of local restaurants that serve food at the same price point as their downtown shopfronts (due to an anti-price-gouging policy) are another. Let’s not forget the famous carpet pattern, which has spurred apparel of all kinds. But in August, PDX opened a tree-filled main terminal, designed by local architecture firm ZGF Architects, that sets a new, sky-high standard for air travel. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gCSnj-8b Words by Leopoldo Villardi Photos © Ema Peter #architecture #design #masstimber

  • Hoffman Construction enthusiastically welcomes the WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association) back to Portland! We’ve been waiting many years for a professional women’s basketball team to return to Rose City, and now thanks to the future team owners, Alex Bhathal and Lisa Bhathal Merage, we only have to wait one more season until we can cheer on a new home team. At Hoffman we pride ourselves in being active in our communities. We regularly support programs and organizations that make communities where we work a better place to live. And we think sports, community events, and opportunities to support local teams and venues make for better places to live. So we fully support the league's 15th franchise being awarded to Portland, Oregon - the location of our corporate headquarters, and where our company was founded 102 years ago. #WNBA #WelcometotheW
