Today, HF President and CEO, Frankie Miranda participated in the panel conversation “Preparing the Growing Latine Workforce for the Tech Jobs of Today and Tomorrow” at Jobs for the Future (JFF) Horizons in Washington D.C. to discuss the important issue of the digital skills disconnect the Latino community is facing. With 57% reporting low to no digital skills and 92% of all current job postings requiring more of these skills, we need to ensure that proper training is readily accessible for our community. Latinos represent only 6% of employees in the technology sector despite being nearly 20% of the US population.    That is why Hispanic Federation has worked tirelessly to develop multiple curricula that focus on job readiness and digital skills development. We provide hyper-local labor market data to help community partners get an understanding of who the big employers are in the area and what skills are in demand. Through our efforts, we have successfully deepened our relationship with Google to offer scholarships for Google Career Certificates in “AI Essentials” and other technology sector training. A migrant’s journey is not done once they receive legal work authorization, that is just the start. Once, folks receive authorization, HF and our team of case managers in New York are readily available to ensure individuals gain proper employment AND skills to adjust to the U.S. job market.  Thank you WorkingNation for hosting a space to discuss an issue, not many highlight. Thank you to all the panelists Ramona Schindelheim, Editor in Chief of WorkingNation; Dwana Franklin-Davis, CEO of Reboot Representation; Robert Barron-Pryce, Giving Manager of Google; for your valuable insight. There is a digital skills disconnect for the nation's Latino workers, with 57% reporting low to no digital skills. With 92% of all current job postings requiring some level of these critical skills, what is being done to expand access to the training needed to prepare the Latino workforce and jobseekers for the careers of today and tomorrow? Frankie Miranda, president & CEO of Hispanic Federation; Dwana Franklin-Davis, CEO of Reboot Representation; Robert Barron-Pryce, Giving Manager of Google.org; and I will be discussing this important issue Monday afternoon onstage at JFF Horizons. If you're attending the conference, we invite you to join us. https://lnkd.in/gYPGeSGs Jobs for the Future (JFF) WorkingNation #Jffhorizons #jffhorizonsonlinkedin #latinos #latinoworkforce #digitalskills #upskilling

Today HF, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Movement for the Achievement of Independent Living (MAVI), and Centros Sor Isolina Ferré (CSIF) co-hosted a special orientation and sign-up event for the DOE Solar Access Program at the United Evangelical Church of Jauca in Santa Isabel, PR. Together, we reached dozens of community, nonprofit and municipal leaders who are now prepared to help refer eligible residents to this life-saving program.     We were honored to be joined by Secretary of Energy, Jennifer Granholm, as well as Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and representatives of Congressman Raúl Grijalva for this important event.  Their leadership in Washington D.C. on behalf of Puerto Rico made this program possible and their presence today highlights the significance of bringing reliable solar energy to the most vulnerable low-income communities in Puerto Rico.     This initiative is funded by the DOE's Puerto Rico Energy Resilience Fund (PR-ERF), allocated by Congress, and will provide solar panels and battery storage systems with NO upfront cost to an estimated 37,000 qualifying low-income households across PR… This means more stability, resiliency and energy security for families who need it most!     HF is proud to be an official collaborator in the DOE Solar Access Program and bring energy education to all participating households.     Interested in learning more about the Solar Access Program?  ✅ To apply, contact one of the 15 Solar Ambassadors in Puerto Rico. The Solar Ambassadors are community organizations selected by the DOE to help residents submit applications for the Solar Access Program. Contact your local Solar Ambassador to confirm your eligibility and start your application. To be connected to your Ambassador call: 1-833-822-8628  or text: Solar to 40649    A special shoutout to our local partner, the Iglesia Evangélica Unida de Jauca, for their continued collaboration and dedication to community and a more resilient Puerto Rico. 🌞🔋

With over 527 anti-LGBTQ bills introduced across the U.S. in 2024, the Hispanic Federation, the nation’s premier Latine advocacy group, united with top Latine LGBTQ advocates, U.S. Rep Darren Soto, and U.S. Rep Mark Takano on Tuesday, July 9 to demand that Congress take action to protect LGBTQ rights ahead of the 2024 elections. Advocates pushed for federal legislation that provides protections against the wave of anti-LGBTQ legislation being introduced in state legislatures across the country.    "In recent years we have seen an unprecedented spike in the number of anti LGBTQ legislation being introduced across the country. The Latine LGBTQ community has historically faced unique challenges and discrimination, and as these attacks continue to get bolder we need to amplify our voices and make it clear that our rights are non-negotiable,” said Frankie Miranda, President and CEO of Hispanic Federation.     Read the full press release by clicking the link below: https://lnkd.in/em_Kqerr     Missed our press conference on the hill, click the link here to view: https://lnkd.in/ehNSPcSK
