WE ARE THE HIGHER EDUCATION EQUITY NETWORK, a collective impact network that brings together more than 30 organizations at the forefront of leading transformation in higher education. Our members work with and within two-year institutions, four-year institutions, Historically Black colleges and universities,Hispanic-serving institutions, and Tribal colleges and universities – driving change through a variety of levers, including advocacy, convening, research, and technical assistance. As a network, we are leveraging our combined expertise and decades of experience. Together, we envision and spur changes in the field that will launch Black, Latino/a/x, and Indigenous students toward better outcomes in higher education and beyond.

CCA President Yolanda Watson Spiva, Ph.D., BCC, has co-authored an op-ed in Diverse: Issues In Higher Education on the complexities of student transfer. In the piece, she and co-author Luis Felipe Rincon of Acadeum note that not all transfer students are the same--many aren't on the typical "upward transfer" path but are rather lateral or reverse transfer students. We must create models that benefit those students and offer them a clear path to a degree. Did you know that 2.1 million students attended institutions that consider legacy status in admissions decisions in the 2021-2022 academic year? The practice, prevalent even at public institutions, disproportionately benefits the children of college-educated families. These students are disproportionately White and well-off, tilting the scales against first generation students, students from race and ethnicity groups historically underrepresented in higher education, and students from low income backgrounds.
