In this clip, we dive into the origin story behind the name “High Low Buffalo” and why it felt like the perfect fit for my architecture firm. It was also an honor to be the first guest, along with Daniel Stine of Lake Flato Architects, on Autodesk’s new “AEC on AEC Conversations” series! I had the pleasure of spending a day chatting about architecture and some of the challenges, tools, and opportunities within the industry. This infinite whiteboard allows us to collaborate remotely, creates a database for all project information and presentations, and even supports some surprisingly nice vector-based sketching opportunities. Here's an early-stage sketch of our latest project that helped solidify the concept before we moved into final modeling and rendering. From sketch to (near) reality. It's so fulfilling to sit around a table with a team, develop a strong concept, and then sculpt that concept into reality. In the case of the renovation of this confidential school and science museum, it's near reality. This project "pops the top" of a one-story exhibitions space within a Brutalist concrete building and creates a new serpentine, wood-lined circulation path connecting a series of interactive dioramas, exhibits, and classrooms. The journey is culminated by a sun-kissed organic oculus and a second-story patio, perfect for student tours or community events. We emphasized maintaining the historical integrity of the building while integrating modern design elements. Key historical features are highlighted and preserved to celebrate the building’s original character, creating a unique juxtaposition between old and new.
