We're living in a moment where anti-immigrant rhetoric and xenophobia are reaching an all-time high. We've been horrified as invasion narratives and belief in the Great Replacement have become normalized and weaponized. We've been enraged by the extreme proposals from the Trump campaign and Project 2025: mass deportations, sweeping raids, detainment camps, and a revival of President Trump's Muslim Ban. And we've been disappointed by the Biden administration's choice to implement more restrictive policies for asylum seekers when they should be addressing the real challenges at our country's southern border with leadership and solutions. Have no doubt: HIAS will be here to stand up in a principled way, even when the political climate is characterized by anti-immigrant narratives ✊

Soccer holds a special place in the hearts of many around the world ⚽️ But even a game that captivates billions worldwide can feel isolating for refugees, who don’t feel represented by teams back home or in their host country. That’s why HIAS Kenya, along with the local government of Nairobi and partner organizations decided to change this — one game at a time. Together, they organized a soccer match for young refugees living in Nairobi. The idea of the match was to promote unity, tolerance, cohesion, and integration between young, displaced people and the local community. For many Arab LGBTQ people, they're a minority within a minority within a minority in Israel, often with no support system. Last month, our teams in Israel partnered with Beit El-Meem to distribute food and hygiene care packages for the Arab LGBTQ community in Haifa. Beit El-Meem offers a hotline, a counseling center for professional counseling for community members, and legal aid on matters of rights violations based on sexual and/or gender identity.
